Saratha Vilas Chettinad

Extremely unprofessional online booking service and staff! High-handed ***agement that is unaccommodating of guest's requests. Please note that they advertise the master chamber room as accommodating 2 adults and 2 children but at the time of booking, they charge you extra. It is misleading and when I raised this with the ***agement, I was asked to cancel the reservation. This is despite paying a 50% advance on the rooms. Since I wasn't sure if children would accompany us on this trip, I requested that the extra amount charged for children be settled at the time of my stay. Instead of the request being considered, I was intimated that my reservation is cancelled. ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC SERVICE! Clearly different rules apply to India guests. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

We had expectations but this property surpassed all. Situated in a quaint village Kotha***galam, this property reflects chettinad heritage while offering all modern amenities. very well restored property without compromising on structure and architecture. The staff are wonderful and took care of every single need, being very attentive and receptive. This is a place to just relax and unwind, while they offer some activities like massage, cooking classes etc. If you are arriving from trichy, go past Thirumayam(Google maps suggest this) and take the exit to Kanadukathan at Nemathampatti. The roads are better this way to Saratha Vilas and you probably will reach sooner. Parking is just across the property in a small empty ground.

This palatial guest house is an absolute gem to discover less known area if Chettinad. Refurbished by french architects full of enthousiasm, it offers 10 wide rooms and a refined restaurant inspired by Chettinad tradition but not overly spicy. I loved the cuisine demonstrations and Kiran’s ayurvedic massages are a blessing! 2 hours by car from Tanjore or Madurai, the place, with lush garden and pool is a calm base to visit neighbouring villages and their exceptional architecture & traditions.

3 stays at Saratha Vilas and wanting more. The place has been beautifully renovated by Michel and Bernard and is perfectly maintained. In the heart of an authentic Chettinad village, you find an extremely comfortable typical palatial house. The food is delicious and the hosts know everything about the history of this very special part of India.

Authentic and unforgettable stay, made possible by great hosts Michel and Bernard. I loved each and everything proposed by Saratha Vilas. Waiting to repeat the experience and I recommend each and everyone to do so.

The architecture is beautiful, the rooms are beautiful, the people are wonderful and the food is just delicious. I highly recommend Saratha Vilas for when you pass through Chettinad. The experience is definitely worth the hype.

A stunning hotel, with the most helpful and courteous staff you could wish for. The property is full of charm and steeped in history, maintained with great care and attention. This place is an absolute gem, and not to be missed when visiting southern India!!

Fantastic place with fantastic boss. Bernard and Michel are very kind people. They create a wonderful atmosphere for a sophisticated and relaxing stay . Lot s of interesting spots around and great restaurant in the hotel Hope to come back and meet them again

We just loved our stay at Saratha Vilas and think the owners have done an amazing job at renovating the place. It is so charming and tasteful and comfortable and the historical aspects of this palace have been very well preserved. The founders and the staff are super welcoming, efficient and friendly. Rooms are spacious, very well decorated with all the modern amenities. Loved the pool and breakfast and everything about that place. Have recommended the hotel to all of our friends who want to visit Chettinad and will definitely come back.
