The only negative experience we had was being charged for pool towel use and not being told prior that it would cost.

Being a hotel manager myself, the hotel is not up to a 4 star level. Starting from the positives,the hotel is on a great central location, very close to the beach,the marinas, all restaurants-shops & train bus stations. The reception team was lovely & the receptionist who checked us in (Terry) was very nice & provided us with the info needed (breakfast times, wifi code etc). The reception lobby was nice. The room was a double standard but very noisy as it was facing the street,the balcony was a Juliette balcony so you cannot use it to sit etc, the shower was the tiny & old,the minibar did not work at all (was not cooling) & when reported to the reception they did not offer to look at it.no iron or ironing board in the room, when we asked for it, we were told to pick it up from the reception and the iron had limescale on it so it was not usable (could stain our clothes. The cleaninless of the room was fair, however I could see that the floor was not hoovered or mopped during our stay. The breakfast was nice and had some traditional items, the service was good but many items were finished by 9:30 and were not replenished as the breakfast was ending at 10am. This is not right, the breakfast buffet must have enough offering until closing time. Also it is served indoors so for those who want a breakfast view, it’s not ideal. The pool was small but clean. The hotel amenities, service, offering & status of rooms reflect to a 3 star hotel and the price per night (€200 approx) is quite high for this type of hotel.

This is a very clean and comfortable hotel in a good location. The food is good - we certainly didn't go hungry (even though I'm vegetarian and quite picky!). What really makes it excellent are the wonderful staff who looked after us so well. Nothing was too much trouble and we were warmly greeted at reception, in the restaurant and at the bar. This was our first visit to sorrento. We travelled as a party of 5, to celebrate our daughters 17th birthday. We had booked through Jet2 and were dropped off at the neighbouring hotel. Check in was no problem. On arrival we decided to upgrade to a suite to give us all more room. My parents had a nice triple room with a balcony overlooking the pool. Our room was lovely, very spacious, with a large bathroom with a bath and shower. There were 2 single beds as well as a four poster, a couch with a small table and a fridge. The only thing I would say was missing was a kettle! Our balcony overlooked the side street, but we had views of the sea and Vesuvius. Breakfast was served between 7am and 10am. This was a buffet style with cereals, hot food, a huge selection of pastries, rolls, cheeses and cold meats. Tea and coffee were served at the table and there was also a machine serving fruit juices. Dinner was served between 7pm and 10pm, this was table service, the waiters came and took your order from the menu. There was a buffet salad bar, then a starter, main meal and dessert. There was always a choice of 3 things for each part. The menu was also put up outside the dining hall each afternoon for you to have a look at. We enjoyed the food and only ate out once just to experience the sorrento atmosphere! There is also a pool bar serving a great choice of food and drinks, this is open till 11pm every night. The pool is heated to 25 degrees, which was great. Plenty of sun loungers round the pool. You can get towels there too for €2. The hotel itself is situated in a great position, it’s a few minutes walk to all the shops, bars and restaurants. We had pre ordered a birthday cake for our daughter which was amazing! She chose a chocolate one and it was lovely. The staff here are amazing. In all our years of travelling and visiting many hotels, I can hand on heart say the staff here are the most hard working and caring people we’ve met. Nothing was any trouble and they were so friendly, I’d go back there just for them! The harbour is only a 5 minute walk if you want to get the ferry to Capri. The train station is about a 15 minute walk. Would we go back to sorrento?? Probably not because we’ve done it now, but I would love to go back to this hotel and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

Why was our stay perfect at Hotel Villa Maria? Location...literally 5 minute walk to main streets of Sorrento and access to marina's etc. Approx 15min walk to train station, though cobbled street and suitcases may take longer.A slight hill to hotel, but perfectly manageable. Staff... Villa Maria is not part of a large hotel chain. Therefore, the staff you meet at breakfast are the same as those at dinner, the pool bar staff are the same each night, and this is lovely. The Villa Maria staff were fantastic, really lovely. Not in an over the top way, but in a pleasant, professional, helpful, and friendly manner even when they must have been tired. Every member of staff was spot on, it really does make a holiday. Food... we have never gone half board before, but we thought we would try it this holiday. As mentioned in other reviews, the dinners were delicious and high standard. Hats off to the chefs. It was served, not a buffet, there were at least 3 choices per course and over 7 days we didn't have one dish, which wasn't at restaurant standard. Breakfast was plentiful. General... Villa Maria was spotlessly clean. Our room was fine, with plenty of space and storage.,409. Maybe a little 'tired' but negligible. We had a small balcony, not with a view, but a nice outside space. Photos of pool area are a true reflection of size, there was always plenty of . Bonus terrace on 6th floor for sunkeekers with hot tub. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are returning next year.

This trip was well arranged by Riviera Travel. The hotel is in a great position just out of the town centre but within easy walking distance of all the shops, bars, restaurants etc. We had, what we felt was, the best room. Room 503 on the fifth floor. It was spotlessly clean and everything worked. The view from our balcony was fantastic over the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius. One minor concern was the shower which was a little bit on the small side and a larger framed gentleman might have struggled a bit. The hotel staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming and made our stay very happy and comfortable. The swimming pool and surrounding area was immaculate and the pool bar staff were friendly and obliging. The equipment ( loungers, umbrellas, tables and chairs) were all new looking and in perfect working order and the pool itself was perfectly clean and at a temperature of 25 degrees which was just right. There were two poolside showers with adjustable temperature. This trip was to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and we couldn’t have chosen better.

Great place to stay. Staff is very helpful and service was excellent. Breakfast was great and the drinks and food at the pool was my families favorite. The only thing we didn’t like was the size of the shower, it is small. And our wives didn’t like that you have to hold the power button down on the hair dryer to keep it working. Bring your own. But we will definitely stay there again the next time we are in Sorrento.

Amazing stay at Hotel Villa Maria-Sorrento. Great location. Great breakfast and great staff! Especially Anna Chiara, Anna and special thank you to Giusy who helped us out tremendously who accommodated my family and I (5 of us) at the last minute! Highly recommend this hotel!

Great hotel location for walking into town, excellent food /breakfast so much choice, I especially loved the dolce and fresh fruit . My brother and I ate at the pool bar twice tasty food and drinks, very relaxed lovely staff who recommended a beautiful light rose wine with our fish, plus I got to try my Delizie al Limone, infact I over did it on those, they were my favourite. My room was beautiful and clean every thing worked lots of towels, comfortable bed and I especially loved my tiled floor and wooden slanted roof. I loved my little view from my porthole window, infact I often sat before I went out looking at the boats sailing to Capri. The hotel has a great pool and seating area around the pool but I also loved the hot tub on the terrace... I mean where can you sit and see an amazing view of Vesuvio whilst enjoying a relaxing hot tub. The hotel has a lovely cool large lounge seating area on the ground floor where you can order drinks from the small bar... My Camparis were excellent as expected in Italia, I also got to try pizza and espresso in Naples, amazing, it had to be done. There were so many places to eat and all the meals we had were excellent but our favourite place was La Fenice restaurant which was two mins walk from the hotel, great place, however the dining room at the hotel looked excellent to. I can only thank all the staff at the Hotel Villa Maria they are outstanding. Sorrento is an explosion of colour taste and smells... I would love to return and definitely stay again at the Villa Maria... Grazia mille ❤️
