We stayed for one week at Aminta and we loved it. It’s very clean, room servicing was fantastic, and reception incredibly helpful and professional.
Breakfast was great, plenty of choice particularly if you like continental. The staff were always so lovely and cheerful.
The key selling point for me is the stupendous view from the outside seating area near the pool. Our mouths were open when we first saw it. Stunning, stunning views out across the bay to Vesuvius and the islands which you can enjoy whilst lounging under an olive tree on your cream cushioned rattan furniture, listening to the birds, a cockerel and the cicadas, iced-coffee or Aperol in hand. Simply divine. The photos do not do it justice.
The view at sunset is just beautiful and you can watch it from the infinity jacuzzi if you choose.
We didn’t try the a la carte menu as we prefer to eat out but the lunchtime ‘snack’ menu was just superb! Proper, tasty Italian food (and huge portions!), different to many of our experiences down in town where it felt like tasteless food was being mass produced for the tourists).
The only reason I would rate it as 4 rather than 5 is because it’s not clear in the description how strenuous the 20 min walk is back from Sorrento. It’s clear there is a 20 min walk which we do not mind at all but walking back is pretty hard as it’s quite steep, uphill. It’s a direct downhill path into Sorrento, you don’t follow the 4km winding road down.
There is a complimentary minibus for hotel guests, to and from Sorrento, on the hour. Except, there are no buses at peak time between 9.30pm and 11.30pm, prime time for returning to the hotel. You have to either stay out late in Sorrento, get a 28-35 euro (scarcely available) taxi or walk back. We walked back but it’s exhausting. This is not the hotel’s fault and we knew we would be a 20 min walk back but didn’t know how strenuous it would be. Thank you, Aminta, for putting on the complimentary minibus. Whilst we realise you don’t need to, a more frequent bud service at peak time would just be amazing.
One pool bar waiter was rather surly (not the chap with the dark hair in a ponytail; he was lovely!) but it could have been a language issue. We thought we could eat from the snack menu at night so asked if we could have a bruschette. He said,”No madam, we are a bar, not a kitchen.” He was quite right in what he said but it made me, as a paying guest, feel a little belittled. In all, an absolutely wonderful stay. Thank you, at Aminta, we will miss you.
