We stayed overnight on June 2025, and oh boy — we felt so spoilt from the moment we arrived! The thoughtful touches made all the difference: a warm welcome card in our room, cozy tuckdown service, gowns and slippers laid out on the bed with a “sleep tight” card, and even farewell cookies for our trip home. The bed was very comfortable, and breakfast was served in a stunning glass-walled restaurant with panoramic views of the beach and sea. The setting was peaceful, and the food was delicious. It’s also just a short drive to several popular restaurants. We highly recommend this lodge to anyone looking for a relaxing and pampered stay.

Given that this was an expensive hotel it lets itself down in some key areas and the management needs to take action. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast as the quality of the buffet was lacking eg the fruit salad and bread are unappetising and it did not compare at all favourably to other hotels. Service was very friendly but painfully slow with coffee taking up to 20 minutes to arrive and people leaving after 50 minutes still waiting for their cooked breakfast. The place feels unmanaged. In the room the mini bar door was off its hinge and the fridge was not working on arrival. Coffees and teas taken were not replenished. Generally the room was lovely but for this price it needs to be spot on. recommend the Nevermind Restaurant for lunch and don’t miss the Greek Taverna by the canals for the ambience.

The view from the hotel is spectacular! Room clean and well appointed. Staff definitely are not supervised or trained ! The breakfast was acceptable but sadly the evening meal was poor bordering on inedible !

Great location for us - visiting family close by. Close to sea and great spot to watch sunsets. Did not get to eat is restaurant but looked good.

Hotel room and pool was nice but would not recommend staying here and definitely would not recommend eating here, the food was terrible! My oysters were completely frozen and when I asked for new ones they brought out half frozen ones. My husband’s fish was also inedible, it tasted horrendous and was so rubbery. On check out they charged us the full price for the meal (apart from the fish) including the salad that went with my husband fish. Following this disappointing stay we arrived at our Safari and waiting for us there on reception was the bill from the Sands as the payment hadn’t gone through. This could have had this emailed to us or sent through or agent but instead put a downer on our arrival at Pumba. We were also a honeymoon couple and they had no idea about this on arrival. Very disappointed with this stay!

Had two nights here in spacious rooms opening up to ocean views and just steps from the beach. Everything inside was “tasteful rustic” and comfortable. The dining area in the morning looked out over the ocean. We had dinner at the hotel on the first night as we arrived about 5pm. It was so good we decided to dine there the second night. Staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all - would I stay here again? Absolutely.

We stayed for 8 nights for a family wedding and it was perfect. The staff were all very pleasant and attentive and we would definitely stay here again.

We had an amazing time at The Sands St Francis. Great location right on the beach with exceptional views. The staff were amazing and really made our stay special.

Lovely lodge. Amazing views and excellent staff. Highly recommend to those looking for a place to stay along the garden route. The rooms are of a high standard with amazing view of Atlantic Ocean. The food was amazing and location was great to local amenities

Sitting right on the ocean this guest house offers fantastic views and soothing ocean sounds. My best night’s sleep in South Africa. The house has been tastefully refurbished offering a small number of well appointed spacious rooms. An upstairs restaurant looking over the sea provides an excellent breakfast and will provide dinners on request with a personalized menu and service.. A very comforting and secure location.

St Francis Bay is such a lovely small town and The Sands has a fabulous setting overlooking the ocean. Everything is perfect and the staff all work incredibly hard to deliver great service with a smile. The dinners in the evening surpassed our expectation. The quality and choice could not be faulted and, with an impressive wine list too, it was so nice to sit in the small restaurant hearing the waves below and chatting to your fellow diners. We stayed here about 6 years ago. It was lovely to be back again and I’m sure it won’t be our last visit. Thank you to everyone who made our 4 day stay so memorable.
