The staff at the Tembo Hotel are wonderful. The rooms are magnificent. The location is perfect. Despite that, going forward, I will not book a room to stay there if I can help it (“never” is such a harsh word). A week before my recent trip, I sent an email confirming the number of rooms and the confirmation numbers securing those rooms. If there was a problem, I had time to cancel and book elsewhere. I received an email response confirming the details of my email. Perfect! So I was confidently en route with my group.
Once I got there, along with 27 other people, the rooms were not as we agreed. We were exhausted. We had done a full day of safari the day before, and had risen early, jumped with the Maasai, caught a local flight after a rain storm, and piled into yet another set of trucks in order to get ourselves and our luggage to the hotel. The last thing we wanted to do was discuss anything. Besides, Sampa the Great was scheduled to perform that same night. I was not in the mood for their unorganized foolishness. They eventually came up with the last room. Thought the matter was resolved. Then days later the manager starts rehashing the matter with my travelers. Boo! He knew where my room was if there was more to discuss. Third time I’ve stayed there, third time I’ve had a problem with a reservation there. Their mistake could have really ruined our night. Luckily the last room magically appeared. Can’t risk that happening again. Other than that - great place to stay.
