Sutton Hall Resort

Just a short drive into Thirsk to with good pubs and very good restaurants. Lovely swimming pool but too cold for us to use hot tub and sauna. Large apar**ent with plenty of seating and great views. Short journeys to York, Ripon, and many small towns.

Comfy bed and good towels. Cottage was well equipped, for eating in. Didn't use sauna or hot tub as outside and it was very cold. Private use of pool was nice. Location good for North York moors and York and Ripon.

cannot fault this lovely hotel, perfect for a family stay when visiting Castle Howard for my birthday, quiet, immaculate, lovely setting and garden, lots of parking, comfiest beds ever, well equipped kitchen and bathroom with bath and shower, fluffy towels, private swimming pool suite with hot tub/jacuzzi, gym, games room and lots of books to read, super, thank you so much!

I was very impressed to find this little gem hidden away in North Yorkshire. The managers have done a great job maintaining the history of the property but have introduced new furniture to make it comfortable. We thought we had booked an apar**ent but we were very pleasantly surprised when we were allocated a cottage. It was fantastic for our night away. Plenty of room for 3 adults. Very clean which was wonderful. The views are amazing and it’s such a relaxing place. We used the hot tub which was a nice little addition to our holiday. The following day we took the woodland walk in the sunshine. We will def be returning. Thank you

Sutton Hall provides a nice base for exploring North Yorkshire. A 45 minute drive from York, v it is 3 miles from the village of Thirsk, home of James Herriot and the Yorkshire Vet. The resort is not super fancy, but the unit I had in the main house was spacious with a fairly well stocked kitchen. Has charm. Would stay again.

Firstly Sutton Hall is a mixture of time share owners, people who swap timeshares from other places and guests staying on a short term basis. The facilities have improved enormously thanks to a dynamic new committee, who realised that the modern holidaymaker demands more and more. Being able to book and use a swimming pool, hot tub and sauna for private use, is simply excellent. Most of the apar**ents have been upgraded. There is a pool Table and tennis courts, gym equipment and nice grounds to walk in. You can book spa trea**ents and cream teas. It is not though a typical hotel, there is no bar, no restaurant, it is self catering with lots of extra facilities. I agree it’s a shame the local pub has shut, but it seemed to coincide with the pandemic. We are biased, we love going to Sutton hall and it’s a great base. We do like the walk to the Carpenters Arms and they do a great. Sunday lunch. We think it’s a hidden gem.

The building is beautiful from the outside, the entrance and hallway is lovely and welcoming. We just felt that the apar**ent itself was very basic and disappointing. The kitchen was tiny, I struggled just making breakfast as there is no work top space. The sofas are very uncomfortable to sit on as they sag in the middle. It could do with being updated and made a bit more luxurious. We loved our days out around Yorkshire and had a lovely week, but I was also pleased to come back to some home comforts when I got back to my own home.

Friendly staff. Spotlessly clean. Rosedale cottage has a lot of charm and really spaceous. Would highly reccommed Sutton Hall for a couple or family. Loved the use of swimming pool and the hottub. Grounds are lovely for a winter stroll. Looking forward to coming again in the spring/summer.
