寿美吉旅館(Sumiyoshi Ryokan)

素晴らしい旅館！気配り、行き届いたサービス、快適な便利さ、すべてが本格的で伝統的な雰囲気の中にあります。骨董品に囲まれ（部屋も含め）、ホストは素晴らしい会席を提供しているにもかかわらず、ユーモアのセンスを持っていることに気付くでしょう！もっと長く滞在できたらよかったのに！

Thanks to the kind host, only good memories remain. The Miyagawa Morning Market and Sanmachi Historic House Preservation Area are located near the Ryokan, making it a great place to visit on foot.

If you want to gain an insight into Japanese life, people and their traditions this is a lovely place to stay. It is a ryokan run by some elderly local people in a very old Japanese house. It’s such a change from standard hotels and we’re so glad we experienced a little bit of Japanese home life. We had a wonderful elderly lady who seemed to run the place and who we nicknamed “mama Takayama” as she looked after us so well. The staff don’t speak alot of English but are very warm and attentive. You sleep on the floor - and during the day the bedding is magically put away and you gain a tearoom! The breakfast is very good (you can opt for traditional Japanese which we had or Western style) and there’s an onsen which was a real bonus on freezing winter days. Excellent location - walking distance to everything. A lovely place to stay 2-3 nights.

This is a lovely Ryokan. Our room looked over the river and had a lovely garden just outside. The staff were lively and very well organised. Highly recommend the Japanese breakfast to start your day.

The staff were welcoming. We enjoyed the Japanese breakfast, it was excellent. The Osen was great so relaxing. I would recommend a stay at this ryokan.

Best hotel/accommodation we stayed at in Japan! The staff is so friendly and welcoming, the breakfast is delicious and the location is very convenient. The private onsen was perfect after long days of walking. Would recommend to anyone visiting Takayama!

My young adult son and I stayed 3 nights in February, booked directly with easy email communication in English.It was my third visit and the fourth for my son. We went out of our way to come here from Tokyo to enjoy the hospitality, the food and the atmosphere of this small family run ryokan. I recommend rooms with a river view.I prefer the upstairs room with a private bathroom. Thank you to all the staff and a special thank you to Sumiko-san who serves the meals.

It was the best place we had stayed at to this day! My husband and i never been to a ryokan before and the family running it were absolutely amazing! We arrived a hour late from curfew for check in which i was very worried that we would be turned away for it but we were greeted warmly and got to our room with no problems. Another worry we had was the shared bath since we have tattoos and werent sure if it was ok with the place but when we arrived we found out that it was required to lock the door for the bath so it was a relief. 10/10 I would stay here again and probably stay only at ryokans when I visit japan again as we found ourselves really missing staying at sumiyoshi.
