My apologies as this review is WAY overdue….We stayed at Garth & Angie’s Whakaipo Lodge back in January 2026. It was the last week of a 4 week adventure to Australia and New Zealand. Staying at the Whakaipo Lodge was an AMAZING experience. Angie & Garth were so warm and welcoming. The rooms were perfect and quiet. The food that Angie & Garth prepared was delicious… I was equal to a Michelin star restaurant….Angie so sweetly shared some of her recipes with me…Think of her and Garth every time I make them….. They also arranged a Fly Fishing guide for one of the days we were there. Peter was wonderful. Knew all of the hidden spots to fish. Even though we did not catch any of the 20# trout we saw it was still a great experience…. They had great recommendations for restaurants and coffee house in town. We ate at The Bay which was casual and delicious.. All in all our stay at Whakaipo Lodger was fabulous and we will stay again if we come back to New Zealand….

We arrived at Whakaipo after a magnificent drive through the Taupō region of rolling and hilly volcanic landscape and farmland. The owners Angie and Garth of this special place are hosts like no other. They offer very comfortable accommodation, experience and knowledge of the entire Taupō region and enhance your whole travel experience just by being in their company. Angie’s breakfasts are sensational and if you’re lucky enough to be their guests for dinner you are in for a most incredible treat. We come from Montreal and Toronto where the food and restaurants are exceptional, but Angie and Garth prepared an evening of fine food, wine and dessert second to none, along with delicious and generous treats regularly available in our room fridge. Staying at this B&B truly enhanced our NZ travels!

Waikopo Lodge From the minute you pull into their driveway, you feel the warmth of home. Angie & Garth are lively hosts with an exacting attention to detail that puts their guests instantly at ease. From the made to order breakfast with Garth manning the espresso machine to the lovely canapés and wine in the evening, the stay is delightful, relaxing, and fun. My husband and I had been on the road for 7 weeks in NZ, enjoying the great hikes & bike trails, we were worn out when we arrived at the lodge and a bit dirty! Within an hour, our laundry was being sorted, showers all around, and we were sitting in front of fire, with a lovely red wine in our hands. Garth can arrange bikes, right out of the garage, and you are mountain biking on the W2K, within minutes of their home. They both are very knowledgeable on sightseeing, dining, and outdoor activities on the North Island. Everything they suggested was spot on! We left refreshed and ready for our last 2 weeks in NZ. Armed with their knowledge of Rotorua, we had a wonderful 4 day stay there as well!

The most fantastic hosts of anywhere we stayed in New Zealand. Treated like family and had a wonderful time.

Our hosts Angie and Garth were very welcoming and friendly. They have a lovely home and you're made to feel at home but have privacy and tranquility too. Angie's home made canapés were delicious and the tasting platter was literally a meal in itself, which we enjoyed as a picnic in their beautiful garden. We'd be delighted to return and recommend it to everyone with good values!

Angie and Garth were wonderful hosts! Their lodge is quiet and relaxing. The food was wonderful and Angie went above and beyond to accommodate my dietary restrictions. Thank you both for a great time and conversation.

Angie and Garth have made such a wonderfully cosy and welcoming home. The fire being lit for canapés and breakfast was a highlight. We slept extremely well. And Angie and Garth were full of local tips and tricks to get the best out of our weekend. Thank you for making it so special!

Angie and Garth operate a quiet lodge located adjacent to a sheep farm. They do everything they can to make their guest comfortable, including wonderful breakfasts. They were very helpful with planning activities during our stay.

Beautiful property in a lovely rural setting just outside of Taupō. Angie & Garth are fabulous hosts. Dinner & breakfast were both fantastic, as were the canapés & wines served before dinner. Our room was large with a super comfy bed & lovely outdoor sitting area overlooking the beautiful garden. We highly recommend Whakaipo Lodge.

Garth and Angie are the best. We stayed at Whakaipo Lodge at the beginning of a 4 week NZ journey. They shared the history, culture, local recommendations, and joy of NZ easily and freely with us. Our stay was for 4 nights - the lodge was peaceful, the room and bed very comfortable, and the overall experience delightful. Each morning we had a delicious breakfast and each evening (by choice) a wonderful sit-down for an hour with our hosts. Clean, comfortable, quiet and private are the first words that come to mind. At first, I wasn't sure what to expect at these times with Garth and Angie. But by the time we left, we were looking forward to catching up, hearing new things about NZ, and laughing.

The Whakaipo Lodge was incredible! Angie and Garth are amazing hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. We can’t wait to come back!

Our hosts, Angie and Garth, were so gracious and hospitable. We stayed for 2 nights in an immaculate and lovely room with all of the necessary amenities. Angie is a fantastic cook and we enjoyed 2 expertly prepared breakfasts and canapes in their beautiful home. Thank you to Garth for getting my hooked on flat whites! And to top it off, we met their 11 sheep, who were so sweet and friendly. They had many interesting stories to share and were just so kind and generous. Highly recommend this accommodation. Many thanks to Angie and Garth – we hope to return!

Absolutely stunning grounds. Our private room was very comfortable. Garth and Angie were extremely personal and helped us in so many ways. From local eateries, pubs, biking trails, and additional excursions. Angie's breakfasts were something that we looked forward to each and every morning. Cherished the times we would just sit down and talk with Garth. Could not have been a better place to Celebrate me turning 60 yrs old. Sincerely

Angie is an amazing cook who really listens to your likes and dislikes before providing you with such delicious options for breakfast! Garth is passionate about NZ and it shows. His mountain biking trip was unparalleled and took us to amazing places near Taupo Lake! They really do care about their guests and have been doing this long enough to anticipate nearly all of your needs. Their lodge is beautiful, clean and full of nice touches of the area and activities. My buddy and I are planning on coming back with our girlfriends next time we can come back to New Zealand.
