This is a very pretty hotel. I had a beautiful clean, modern room overlooking the pool with view of the sea. Wonderful comfy bed with choice of pillows. Large balcony. The pool area is lovely: very quiet and relaxing. The staff were amazing. Always smiling and incredibly polite. Two things I’d like to point out, that I did share with reception: 1. It would be nice if someone helped bring suitcases up and down the steep steps leading to the hotel. There aren’t many but I was travelling on my own and not young anymore. 2. The food was mediocre at best and barely warm. Reading other reviews, it seems there was a problem in the kitchen when I was there. Meat was over cooked, extremely dry with no accompanying sauce or gravy. Same roast veg every night. The one night we had fish it was battered and curling as it was so dry. Again no accompanying sauces. Asparagus was so over cooked you couldn’t bite it. Nothing was replenished unless guests asked a waiter and they went to ask the kitchen staff. It really seemed that they were running the kitchen on a shoe string. At breakfast the ‘omelette’ chef kept disappearing, so again, guests had to ask for him to come out. Same in the evening for the ‘specials’ dish. We had bruschetta one lunch time in the pool bar, which was really dry and had no olives, oil or basil and advertised. The bruschetta seemed like it was stale then toasted. It was hard! It’s such a shame as the hotel itself is so lovely. I’ve eaten way better food in 3* hotels. Considering this is classed as 5* the food was a massive disappointment. We met a family who had come again because the food was ‘exceptional’ last year. They said how awful the it was this year. There didn’t seem to be anyone overseeing the kitchen to make sure things were done properly. There will be a lot of complaints over the coming weeks if things don’t improve.
