Emei shan is a very beautiful place. I climbed the whole mountain over 2 days. It’s amazing walking through all the different zones on the mountain. At the bottom it feels almost tropical, then you walk up through the clouds until you hit the icy area then walk out above the clouds near the summit!! I spent 2 nights on the mountain but you only need 1 if you can hike at a reasonable speed. The first day I hiked from Baoguosi to Leidongping. It took about 11h including a half hour stop for lunch at Xianfengsi and a few short breaks for water. Although the accommodation at Leidongping is nicer, I regretted not stopping at Xixiangchi as those last 7.5km were very painful! From Leidongping it’s about a two hour walk or a cable car trip to the summit. I only stayed the second night in Leidongping because I had already booked and paid for the Hotel. I went in winter, but it was the first weekend of the spring festival rush so I unnecessarily booked the hotel. The first night in Leidongping I walked into to a different guesthouse and was offered a similar room for half the price of my online booking. In winter the first bus down the mountain leaves at 9am.
Emeishan is one of the highlights to my Sichuan trip! Jinding, the Golden Summit, is the most notable place that I ended up staying here the most time. I even spent a night at Jinding which was the best decision! I also visited Qingyin Pavilion trail which was beautiful! I did not get to see the monkeys though.
An amazing place! The weather was so cold and the fog and clouds were too thick. very difficult to see. It’s still a great experience. people’s hair were frozen! Very funny to see people with icy hair Can see some small chipmunks, they will approach you for food, just be careful. The drive to the top was very windy. Easy for people to feel sick. I will definitely travel here again to see the amazing sunset.
incredible mountain!! cannot recommend it enough. it is expensive to enter the mountian at ¥160 but very much worth it especially if you do alot of hiking in the scenic area. for the best experience, stay in Leidongping overnight and then wake up early to hike to the Golden summit for sunrise. if you are fit, it will take 1.5 hours, otherwise if you start hiking 2-2.5 hours before sunrise that will be enough time for you to get to the top and secure a nice spot to watch the sunrise. my best tip is to take a warm jacket to the summit, even at the height of summer, early morning is very cold at the top.
This is an impressive cultural and natural wonder. The temple is huge and the views wonderfull. Seing monkies was a real surprise. However, the jorney there and back is long (though scenic). We arrived at the bus terminal 30 minutes before opening in the dark to get tickets, then made the 2 hour bus ride to the summit (not for thise who get car sick). Then its a 20-30 minute hike uphill, then a cabke car, then more stairs to reach the top. We made the too before the crowds were too bad (since we got there early) but within 30-45 minutes the place was wall-to-wall people.
for Mount Emei, you need a bit of luck for good weather. I’ve been here twice, in April and in June 2019 both times at arrival the top was in the clouds. meaning that a view was off the table. the first time fortunatly we had some more time and spend the night in the top to see the sunrise. and this morning the view was amazing. I would recommend anyone to try it for a night and see how it is in the morning.
Well, we got very bad weather. Rainy and foggy so I''m sure that will affect how I feel about this place. We decided to walk from Wanqian temple to the top. It''s a hard walk with the stairs but good exercise and in sure that it must be beautiful with the right weather. However entrance tickets, tranportartion (cable car, bus) extremely overpriced. Locals are not genuinely nice, just want to make profit out of you by selling their stuff, which is very disappointing in a "Buddhist" mountain. But it''s not different from any other top tourism destination in china.
