(Japanese)Paris の地下に広がる共同墓地。出口までの距離が長いので時間に余裕を !!
This was such a cool thing to do in Paris!! I highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about the dark history there. It’s eerie but so interesting!! It’s a little tricky, but definitely try to buy your tickets online before your trip. I wrote a step by step guide on how to do this on my blog. The site is entirely in French with no option for translation so it’s really hard to navigate. Send me a message if you want more info!
You must do!!! The wait could be long but it is so worth it to see! My only warning is for those with children and those that struggle with walking - the climb is excessive and steep and because you are down so far, you can get quite lightheaded when you make it to the surface. For those with children, keep an eye on them. If you are found touching anything, it's a very serious offense. Otherwise, highly recommend !
I did not know what to really expect, but I now can say that it is one of the best €9 spent in the entire tourism industry….Paris has the largest underground necropolis in the world. You can try to imagine six million skeletons in your mind without actually seeing it, but I can assure you that six million skeletons requires about eight times the space that you would mentally imagine.
If you haven't done it before, check out the Catacombs of Paris. While it can be a bit macabre (it's estimated that between six and seven million Parisians call the Catacombs their final resting place), during my trip I found the Catacombs to be a unique and interesting piece of Parisian history.
Not as popular as the normal sites, but very interesting. Sombre, interesting, and historic. A must see.
