Amsterdam, Netherlands. Amsterdam Central Station, Amsterdam Central Station. On October 15, 1889, the Central Railway Station was officially opened. This large-scale red brick-and-stone building, a Dutch-style new Gothic building, was built on three artificial islands with a total of 8687 pillars. Each side of the Central Railway Station has a tower facing the railway station, a bell tower on the right and a wind vane on the left (needles always go up and down).
