The rooms are lovely, the service is friendly and the common areas are quite charming, and yet our stay couldn't have been worse. Why? Because the hotel is directly across from a dive bar with outdoor seating and loud music and they put us in one of the front rooms. We happened to be in Aarhus during an unseasonably warm few days, and yet we were unable to open the windows because of the music, laughing and talking of the clientele. Closing the windows muted the noise, but the music was so loud that the beats can be felt through our mattress, even with earbuds. We can tell you with certainty that the bar is open til 2am at least on Saturdays because that's when it all mercifully got quiet. The situation might have been a little better if we could sleep in, but the front of the hotel also happens to be facing east. We know this, because the sun streams in early in the morning. We also know this because the curtains are sheer and do not block the light. We believe that the hotel knows this about their front rooms because they supply the rooms with ear plugs (which are grossly insufficient as mentioned earlier). Frankly, it feels like a crime that they put guests in these rooms at all on nights when the bar is open. It also felt out of sync with the warm, hospitality that the hotel provides its guests. As much as we appreciated it, the fact that we did not get a good night sleep the entire time was a deal breaker for us. (Full disclosure: We did not feel comfortable complaining at the time because close friends were paying for our room and we didn't want to cause a problem) Our request would be for someone in management to try and sleep in that room on a Saturday night before they put anymore paying guests there. Our advice for future guests, request at time of booking that you do not receive a room on the front side of the hotel. I can imagine that if you stayed in a room in the back, you'd have a wonderful time here. Note on breakfast: the breakfast they provide is very adequate. We skipped it after the first day because Aarhus has some lovely cafes that serve some of the best third wave coffee in the world along with excellent pastries and breads.
I accompanied my husband on a business trip. We stayed here for four nights. Our room was nice. It was on the smaller side, but it was comfortable. A safe would have been nice though. Breakfast was served daily. The options were nice. They included some hot items, meats, cheeses, salads, breads, yogurt, chia pudding and fruit. Monday and Thursday evenings you are served a free glass of wine in the lobby. The fitness center is nice. It was large with bikes, treadmills, a rowing machine, free weights and more. The staff was very helpful to us as we planned our days of exploring the city. There’s plenty to see. A grocery store is across the street which was convenient. The only issue we had was the window cleaner opening our door without knocking. Luckily we had the door chained. Management was very concerned when we notified them. It was handled properly and hopefully it won’t happen again.
IizzymengThe hotel is located right in the centre of the old town of Aarhus, a stone throw from the Domkirke. There is no off-street parking available but you could always use the Navitas car park or even the amazing Dokk1 Parkering in the docks. The handsome stucco façade stands out in the locality and the owners took great care in tastefully decorating the interior of the building, that includes its historical elevator, wall paintings and the reception area. Therefore, it’s a bit of shame that the same has not been extended to ensure the comfort of its guests. Our Standard Room was overlooking the main square but it was rather dark and not very spacious, with a classic décor. The lighting was limited with the main switch not working – side lights had to be turned on individually. There was precious little storage space as only about a third of the wardrobe was available and no other appropriate closets/drawers around. There was a rather high step between the bedroom and bathroom, just ideal for tripping on, in the dark! The bed was quite uncomfortable, with a very thin foam mattress and topped with a smallish duvet. The TV set was on the side of the bed (!) and programmes were only available if you had a suitably tuned smartphone device. We’re all for the options being offered to tech-savvy travellers but surely there has to be easier access for those guests who are less clued-in? The bathroom was of standard size, with a walk-in shower. The hairdryer had to be plugged in by the mirror, above the bathroom sink (there was literally nowhere else to do so, with a mirror!), so not quite sure about the safety aspect of such an arrangement. Bathrobes and slippers were provided. There was a safe-box but it was not working despite the valiant efforts of one of the receptionist. WiFi signal was good. Tea and coffee facilities were offered as well as a frugally stocked minibar. No free water was available. The breakfast was quite limited with a minimal selection of cold dishes and even less cooked food, available. The bread was very tasty. The hotel doesn’t provide dinners. The staff in the reception and the breakfast room were very friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. They couldn’t do enough for us and always responded with a smile. Overall, it felt like the hotel has lots of potential although lots of that seems to have been squandered on half-baked ideas. Good enough to stay in as long as you don’t expect fireworks.
We stayed at Kings Garden 1 in August. The location is on the top floor of an office building, and it is obvious the unit was renovated from a previous office space. Their listing specifically boasts an elevator available to use for a 4th floor unit. When we arrived, the elevator was not working. When we entered the unit, the floors were still completely wet from mopping. The kitchen area is an afterthought, with lack of storage space and items such as a cutting board or drying rack. There is no AC so we left windows open to keep the apartment cool, but there is a LOT of noise at night. However, one night there was a party next door in Daniel & Jacobs adjacent apartment, Kings Garden 2, that lasted from 11pm through the next morning past 10am. We could not sleep all night due to the loud music and noise from the party. When we contacted their email reception, which they claim is the fastest way to receive a response in 30 minutes, we did not hear back for over 3 hours. Then, when I finally heard back, I was given a security phone number to call for a complaint instead and they would not provide any assistance. We never received any follow up until I asked, and found out they did kick out the neighboring guests in THEIR apartment. This took multiple back and forth emails. They were not apologetic and would not issue a partial refund for the terrible night we had. Absolutely terrible customer service given the price of their units. Do not stay in any of their units if you want any sort of hospitality.
VVivien_KenjiLes plus : - Système de check-in très pratique. - Très bonne insonorisation. - Sanitaires fonctionnels.
One thing I apreciated was that my bed didn't rattle when the sleeper on top moved. The bed confort was good. Very good location. Well maintained. Less good : Quite few toilets on 5th floor. I wonder if the one near room 515 - which is rather large - could be divided (upon length) in 2 toilets with entrances in the corridor of room 515.
