My friend and I stayed at the Amazon Lodge in August 1997 (not May 2020, but August 1997 was not an option on here on Tripadvisors). If you want all the comforts of a top hotel, this place is not for you . . . just look elsewhere. But if you want to disconnect from the hustle and bustle and get close to nature, I highly recommend the Amazon Lodge. Our room was very basic with mosquito netting at night. I was worried about the bugs, but honestly it wasn't as bad as Indiana (where I'm from). We saw pink dolphins, caught piranha and cayman, saw tons of red macaws and white egrets and a few toucans. But my favorite was rowing a boat over to monkey island where we fed monkeys watermelon. I especially like the grey woolly monkey who would let me pet him. If I could have smuggled him home in my suitcase, I would have! Our food was good, our guides were knowledgable, and the stars at night were absolutely amazing.
