Our stay at Makanda by the Sea was nothing short of extraordinary. The service was first class, our room was spacious and luxurious and the staff were super attentive to all of our needs and requests. They seamlessly arranged all of our excursions, tours and transportation upon our request in a timely manner. They made us feel like we were royalty throughout our entire stay. Since it was our honeymoon, we wanted a place that was nice and secluded with great onsite amenities and Makanda far exceeded our expectations. We couldn’t have chose a better place to celebrate our union. Starting with Leo and Ariana in the reception office to Alfredo, Luis, Johnathan, and Keilor at the pool terrace/bar and Arbol Restaurant; they remembered our names and gave us recommendations on how to make the most of our stay in Costa Rica. We definitely hope to come back soon with friends. Pura Vida!

ここでは彼らがあなたを台無しにします！彼らはゲストサービス用にWhatsAppをセットアップしていて、それがさらに台無しにしました。私はスパにいて、そこに持ってきた飲み物に氷が必要だったのですが、メッセージを送るだけですぐに持ってきてくれました。食べ物は朝食、昼食、夕食ともに素晴らしかったです。 Agua Azulesと町への無料シャトルサービスがありました。Agua Azulesでパラセーリングを予約し、すぐに降ろしてくれたので完璧でした。部屋は清潔でした。物件は綺麗でした。ナマケモノ、イグアナ、サルを見ることができました！サルはチェックアウト時にホテルの建物のすぐ外にいました（ビスタスイートを予約しました）。

I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The rooms were big, updated, and clean. The only issue I had was with one staff member who stemmed to be snobby but the rest of them were very accommodating. I told him I wanted to stay another night and he told me that I needed to do it on the web. I stated that I thought it would be faster and cheaper if we would do it here, but he said ”no”. He was not interested in helping me, it seemed like. Oh well, I called the other hotel where I was staying two nights and they happily accommodated us for another night. I don't get these type of workers especially in Costa Rica where customer service I hold it in high regards. One of the reasons I love to come to this country it's because of their Pura Vida way of life, caring, loving, helpful. I guess los ticos are changing as well.

ホテルはビーチのすぐそばという絶好のロケーションにありますが、道路の向こう側に多くの部屋があり、多くの階段があります。ヴィラに到着したとき、ビーチサイドルームにアップグレードしましたが、海の素晴らしい景色を眺めることができましたが、かなり古く、かなり湿気がありました。プールエリアは素敵で、夕方まで営業しています。レストランはビーチにあり、いたずらなサルからナツメまで、地元の野生生物がたくさんいます。ランチ/イブニングメニューは美味しく、食べ物は本当に美味しく、カクテルも美味しかったです。しかし、朝食は貧弱です。最初の朝の後、私たちは実際に朝食のために他の場所に行きました。スタッフは皆とても素晴らしく、とてもフレンドリーで、私たちがそこにいる間は医療状況があり、彼らは私たちを助け、サポートするために何度も行きました。

I've stayed here since April 2004 I love the place It's off the beaten path it's nothing fancy but it's getting better and you want to stay in the jungle anyhow I don't want any Foo Foo hotel. And J's great Maria still there several of the new girls are there and the guys and everything's fine. Food in the restaurants outstanding the presentation is excellent.

The photos of their rooms look exactly like the actual room we received ! If anything the room appeared bigger than what we expected. We had booked the king bed room overlooking the pool and it was perfect. Except for one thing that I shouldn't/wouldn't have let bother me but here is what happened - you do the decision. I asked about laundry service and was told by the front desk guy that I should save my $$'s and use the oversize bathroom sink (and it was) then hang my clothes on the little wire units that were in the shower area. Simple enough except after I did the wash and rinse & squeeze of as much water as possible, I went to hang the clothes on the wire and it broke, so pulled out the 2nd one, same thing it broke before I could even hang anything up ! So I went back down to the front desk and explained it all and this time the gal that was there told me to bag it up and they would do it for $7/kilo, I stated that I would do this but since it was already wet, there wouldn't be an accurate weight. She told me not to worry and that they would weigh it after it was dry, so I complied and dropped it off. Next day I went to retrieve it and was alarmed that my 3 tee shirts, 2 shorts and a couple of underwear's were going to cost way over $20 ! I was told be a different person that there was nothing that could be done and I could just pay it or they would add it to my bill at checkout. I paid the bill for what may have been 3 lbs (1.25 kilos max) of stuff. So in closing stay here for the rooms (and we probably would again) but don't have your laundry done here because they will ream you !

MMelbourneSeeTheWorldI don’t enjoy writing negative reviews though as a long time user and contributor on TripAdvisor it is important readers have a chance to be informed before booking that next great holiday. For me first impressions are everything and checkin tends to set the tone of the place you are staying. Regrettably, I was not impressed. The reception is hot and uninviting. Not even a fan to allow air to circulate. We had however done our research on TripAdvisor and months prior to arriving we specifically requested an upstairs deluxe room. It seemed to have that little extra privacy as well as a small balcony where you could sit in the evening. It was unacceptable that the written confirmation of our request was no longer possible as all rooms were full. No apologies. Just suck it up. (Strike 1). We had a hint that this was more a budget hotel than a ‘resort’ when we had to struggle with our luggage off the bus and were asked by the desk clerk if we needed assistance to have our two large cases taken up the stone pathway to our room. The handyman, gardener, pseudo security, lost sole that wanders the place somewhat begrudgingly took our heavy bags to our room. Hello! (Strike 2). We were also asked as part of the checkin process whether we wanted our rooms serviced each day. We were now getting very worried that we had made a big mistake. You need to consider that in Costa Rica there are notices in all the places we have stayed including The Falls, not to flush toilet paper down the toilet. Apparently septic systems in most places are not at a plumbing standard (i.e. lack macerating pump systems) that can cope with paper in their septic systems. Rather, a small bin is provided in the bathroom for such materials to be deposited. Servicing a room in a tropical climate is not an opt in decision. Consider me precious but what are they thinking? Finally the piece de resistance was our room. We had entered a time warp. The room was very, very dated. The dusty mosquito netting over our bed would be an asthmatic’s nightmare. Some of the bathroom fittings were barely secured to the wall and the very small room safe with key(optional request at checkin) was puzzling. At least the aircon worked. As for the desire to sit outside on our porch/walkway in the evening this was a challenge. The ground floor room we were provided (10) is strategically located next to the underground septic tanks. Personally sitting outside with wafts of sewerage emanating from the tank vents was a deal breaker. (Strike 3). I suspect the reason we did not get the room as confirmed was that people arriving before us complained about the smell. The staff (except reception) were friendly enough though they seriously need training in hospitality. Being on their mobile phones during service is not a good look. ‘Chef’ nibbling on food in the kitchen while preparing your meal is poor practice. Clearing your plate while your fork is still in your mouth is a fail in hospitality 101. If you want a drink

If you are going to the Manuel Antonio park area, this is the best hotel to stay at with kid(s). There are two beautiful pools, the family pool has a waterslide and jumping area, the poolside restaurant is very family-friendly, and the balconies overlook gorgeous nature. Many mornings at breakfast we saw monkeys close-up, delighting my daughter (6 YO). Everyone is so friendly, and very helpful. Rooms are not huge but certainly clean and modern, with large showers. We enlisted the hotel's help in booking several excursions, which they did for us (with great communication via email) and charged to our room directly. Highly recommend taking a guided tour of the park in order to spot the best wildlife, and the catamaran tour if boats are your thing. The huge catamarans have waterslides and we were able to go snorkeling and see dolphins playing right in front of us. There were also movie nights at the small movie theater at Si Como No, which were nice for my daughter. (Jungle Book, Moana, Star Wars, etc.). Cannot recommend highly enough.

When I first arrived I didn't think it was the right place, so ended up going to another place and then back again so make sure you check it's the right one when you're there. Receptionists were very friendly and helpful when booking tours etc. The room itself was fairly simple, but clean and nice. Was terrified of getting a stain on the towel or bedsheets because you have to pay extra if you do, which was challenging due to the rain and mud, whilst also being a makeup wearer and on my period, so maybe bring a spare towel that you can actually use... Whilst I didn't go in the pool, it looked very inviting, and I am also aware that they offer some yoga classes there too which everyone said were good. The kitchen area was nice, met some friendly people in there, although be prepared for the many lizards on the walls! The food from the restaurant was also nice however...PLS READ IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES! Make sure you double double check that the waiters have understood your allergies! I ordered a meal, and told the waiter I was allergic to sesame seeds, and asked if what I wanted o order was going to be okay to eat...I told him in Spanish as well, it wasn't even like he had to try and work out what I said. He then brings the food out and I take one look at it and instantly feel like there's something wrong. I asked what seeds they had put on the chips and he tried to tell me that they were pepper seeds. Luckily I kept asking until he finally went to check with the chef. Turns out the entire side of chips were absolutely covered in sesame seeds! Not everyone might have been as persistent as I was, and if I had just trusted what the waiter told me I would've ended up eating the food. I am severely allergic to the point I could die if I ate them, and the most I got was ”sorry about that”. Also make sure you don't do any of the trails they have at night. I wanted to walk into town to get some food, and according to the hostel it was a quick easy walk through the forest. However, when I was walking it started to get dark and the signs weren't very clear. I ended up going the wrong way - on one of the harder trekking routes through the middle of the forest. It had been raining a lot so the mud was thick and slippery and there were lots of hills. I got completely lost, and was absolutely terrified, I couldn't see one of the bridges so ended up in a swamp like area and thought I was going to lose both shoes. I also fell over when trying to go down one of the steep hills and got mud everywhere. It also went in my charging port meaning my phone wouldn't charge (my only form of contact with anyone, as a solo traveller). So after a lot of crying and panicking and having a poisonous frog climb right out in front of me, I finally made it out, but then couldn't even use the towel to help with the mud and rain. This is just my experience and I should've gone during full daylight, but also the paths should definitely be clearer, as to where you're going. Just be

ゲゲストBeautiful location, right across the street from a great beach! It's at the end of the road , just past the entrance to Manuel Antonio Park, which is 300 meters away. It has the classis old Costa Rican vibe, but is kept very clean, with gorgeous grounds. You may even catch the white-faced monkeys in the trees behind, which we saw on our last (third) day. The front desk people are awesome, especially Jenny and Ivan, who actually sought out and found the best zip lining experience in the area, and booked it for us. Restaurants (especially liked El Avión less than a km away), grocery, and souvenirs all within easy walking distance. Everything you need is right there. Would definitely stay there again!
