Our 3 day trip in Basel concludes on more positives than nagging issues. First the good part: Staff such as Steven, Catia and Michael are worth mentioning as they did their best to accommodate our requests. In general the front office staff seems rather well trained and courteous. Secondly the location of this hotel is ideal. With access to train, tram and bus stations within a couple 100 metres is very convenient. Sound isolation and sleep quality are pretty decent. Rooms are modern and seem to ve renovated recently. Ample parking available in the basement. The best part is the entrance of the hotel is within the private space and does not hinder public traffic. So parking the vehicle to offload the luggage is practical. I feel one of the best designs of this hotel is to be able to manoeuvre your car and allow guests to be able to safely disembark. Breakfast is decent and very clean setup. No signs of hygiene issues. And now to the few nagging issues: First the over engineering of elevators and their use can ve confusing at first. Staff should take time to read any messages and requests done through third party booking platforms. Although requests were addressed promptly but could have avoided delays. Room temperature settings difficult to comprehend for kelvins to Celsius conversions. Also the room was quite warm and slightly unpleasant in the evening. Breakfast should consider some infant friendly options too. Value for money - a miss for sure. Overall I would say it was quite a pleasant experience but the management needs to step up on making it a value proposition.
This hotel is within walking distance from the SBB train station, staff at the hotel are very friendly and speak very good English. I was very grateful for the early check in without any quibble with the receptionist, and she explained how we can get around. Room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast had a good choice of hot and cold foods, with variations every day. I would definitely stay here again. The only discomfort with our room was the temperature in our room was set to 19C, which was comfortable during the day, but was a bit too hot for the night for us, and we couldn’t lower the temperature down.
When your flight is cancelled (thanks Easy Jet) and the hotel is full, it takes exceptional service to make things work. I arrived on Wednesday evening 31st August in exactly that situation. So the hotel got somebody in to clean an extra room, they gave me a meal voucher and they said 'don't pay' we will claim off Easy Jet. The glass of Merlot at the bar was the best I ever tasted and the reception desk and restaurant provided excellent service - and good food. Thank you to the team who deserve real praise. My room was actually excellent too and the wi-fi was good.
RRaymond SThis hotel is in a great location right next to the train station and tram lines making it easy to get around the city. Like all Schweizerhof hotels you get a great experience and this one comes at a discount compared to some in other cities. The bed is comfortable and there is a large TV for your viewing pleasure. We were there during the 2024 Euro soccer competition so the TV was nice for watching the games in the evening. The bathroom is large and accommodating with a large walk-in shower. The breakfast had the usual items and a nice selection of hot items including eggs, bacon, and sausage.
ゲゲストThe location is great, close to the Old Town and only minutes on foot from Barfuesserplatz. Parking at Steinen is also within relatively reasonable distance. The service was great and the staff very friendly. The rooms are modern, and what we especially appreciated were the separated shower and toilet, although we did miss additional opportunities to hang bath towels. Our room was to the front of the building and therefore somewhat noisy due to the proximity of the tram line, but I guess that's the caveat of such a central location. For breakfast there are two options: The full buffet breakfast at the Teufelhof across the street, or the coffee shop on the ground floor of the SET Hotel itself. We opted for the latter and loved their croissants. The corridors felt a bit bland, dark and ”hospital-like”, as my wife put it. A bit of colour would give it a somewhat friendlier touch. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and think it's an ideal place to stay for exploring the city.
ゲゲストReally great hostel for seeing the sights of Basel. Location was close to the Basel SBB train station and trams going into the main part of Basel. You can also easily walk. I stayed in an 8 bed female dorm, which had comfy beds. Each bed has it's own locker assigned with key provided by the hostel. There is a good kitchen with a fridge for guests to use, as well as table space to sit and eat. Showers are spacious and not on a timer. The Basel card they give you at check in is great for discounts on museum tickets and free public transport. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and checking in was straightforward. I would recommend as a place to stay to explore beautiful Basel.
We enjoyed an easy walk from the train station and the room was available earlier than expected. We walked easily to many spots, but the theatre and concert hall were perfectly close. The morning swim was most enjoyable. A drink at the bar was made more enjoyable by Jean. Happy to return.
