I dined here last night and honestly can’t fault the food. I had a steak it was well presented and tasty. Five stars However when I went to pay the verbal bill was higher than I expected on questioning this the owner I think slammed a paper copy of my bill on the bar. I was surprised to see a £4.53 (10% I think) service charge for a young man to bring food from the kitchen to my table; outrageous I asked if I was obliged to pay this charge; I was told I wasn’t and another bill without the service charge was thrust at me. I paid drunk my drink never to return A pleasant evening ruined by greed and rudeness

A very enjoyable stay. Although the ground floor rooms are small (as indicated on the website), they are extremely comfortable and well equipped. Staff in restaurant and bar very friendly and the food was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Had a lovely meal and drinks . All good paid bill plus service charge ( which is unusual for 2 people) and also gave tip on top . As taxi arrived we were leaving . I heard the owner shout across the bar which was filled with other patrons . Has he paid . People looked around and I was mortified. Seemed very unprofessional and extremely uncomfortable for me as I was leaving. Definitely need improvement on customer service skills . Was going to leave a nice review but that ruined whole experience for me. So definitely won’t return.

We took lunch here on 26th March having traveled on the Welsh Highland Railway from Caernarfon. we were a bit short of time and we ordered as we arrived, the team at the Hotel served the food within minutes . The food itself was hot and tasty we had fish and chips and scampi and chips. The local beer was also excellent . Clearly they cant serve everybody quickly depends on how busy the are. The restaurant area is newly decorated and a pleasant place to eat. Staff Lovely! This is our go to place when we visit Porthmadog and will be coming back when we visit again. Recommended! Wow, what a place, as someone who travels a lot for work i have to say that this is the best place i have stayed in a very long time, my room...... amazing, even had my own private patio with furniture, the menu was beyond belief, so refreshing to stay somewhere where everything on the menu is cooked fresh and a menu that doesn't involve chips with everything ( unless you want them of course) The team were outstanding, special thanks to Robin, he went above and beyond, even re arranging breakfast service times to accomodate our early starts at work, thank you. Must also mention Claire and Jodie, they were both very helpful, polite and entertaining. This place is a must if you plan to stay in Porthmadog, i will definetly be making a return visit

As an elderly couple (80) with one suffering severe mobility/accessibility problems, Room 3 proved to be perfect - warm, spacious, with an excellent wet-room. The provision of reserved blue badge parking close to the room was a bonus. The food was excellent with a surprisingly wide ranging dinner menu during a slack time of year - we dined in on five nights out of five and were able to ring the changes across three courses. All staff were friendly and attentive, with outstanding service from Robin. We often stay at rather isolated places but having a town centre hotel with covered parking was a real treat. Although a long way from home in the New Forest we would be keen to stay at the Royal Sportsman or it's sister hotel the Caerwylan at Criccieth - the owners clearl know their business.

Best holiday ever would definitely recommend this hotel very friendly nothing to much bother to them at all very central of easy reach to town center Very. Friendly staff host very friendly was in room 3. And was excellent for a disabled person room to a very high standard very warm and cozy

Just spent a fabulous three nights at this lovely hotel. Robin, the hotel manager could not have been more accommodating and helpful. The staff are all really friendly, professional and make this place a delight to stay in. The breakfast included in the price is excellent. Don’t expect super luxurious rooms but you will find first rate cleanliness, warm comfortable beds and a good en suite bathroom with a hot shower. The bar and restaurant areas have been tastefully redecorated. There is free undercover parking and the hotel is ideally located for tourists in North Wales. I shall be back!

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly we ate in the restaurant and the service and food was were both evening meal and breakfast
