We couldn't have been happier with this hotel! I was a bit hesitant to book here due to some negative reviews, but our experience couldn't have been more positive! I booked the Superior room, it was more than large enough for my husband and myself, and our adult son (the rooms were separated by a 4 or 5 step staircase, our son had the upper room, we had the lower). Beds and pillows were very comfortable, the rooms and bathroom were very clean! There is a fan provided in the room, thankfully, as I sleep with a fan on year round. The kind gentlemen at the desk even put one together for my son to use, much appreciated! The breakfast was fabulous, and the woman serving us each morning was an absolute delight! All of the staff members were kind, warm, and friendly! The bar downstairs is a comfortable place to hangout for the evening, there were mostly locals in there, lovely people, great conversations! I do highly recommend this hotel!
I really hate to write a bad review, but there was just so little to like about our stay at the Isle of Skye Guest House. I chalk this up to me being a cheapskate and not understanding the Skye market, so DO YOUR RESEARCH. However, I will note that I saw quite a few similar facilities as we drove around the island -- a lot of tired looking inns that probably cost a pretty penny and were proudly displaying ”no vacancy” signs in early September. I started my search for lodging about 10 months in advance of our trip and quickly discovered that many options were already full, cost more than I wanted to pay, or both. So I ended up booking the Isle of Skye Guest House and there you have it. Read the other reviews -- they're all true. Our room was really small, had no storage space, and provided one of the worst beds I've slept on as an adult: the mattress was mushy, sagging, and thoroughly uncomfortable. The walls were thin, the windows old and single pane, and the bathroom so small you had to close the door before you could turn around. Worst of all, the shower flooded and we had to use all our towels to sop up the water. And, as others have noted: there's no staff on site. If I ever find myself staying on Skye again, it won't be here. It's not that it was terrible or unsafe or not clean -- it's just that it wasn't at all what I wanted or expected for the money spent. So spend more -- it'll be worth it!
I think this hotel is understaffed and overpriced! They did not have personnel to take our heavy bags to the room!! We had to carry over a 100 yards on a gravel path; so we could not roll them and have to carry. Bar service was also bad. Food was good but a bit pricey. Definitely not recommended for over £630 a night!!!
Find somewhere else to stay! I spent 2 nights here and the staff was the most unprofessional I have ever seen. The 3 employees in the dining room just stood around talking to each other about how short staffed the kitchen was and didn't check on me even though there were only 2 tables with customers at the time. The roast chicken was boiled, and the potatoes were not even close to being cooked. I skipped breakfast which was a good thing since all of the tables were full and the food did not look good! While waiting for my tour to pick me up I watched the girl at the front desk go have a cigarette with another employee while people were left to ring the bell for service with no answer. Again, they complained about not enough employees while the cook came out saying he was sick and would not be back the next day and the girls talked about how they had an employee cleaning rooms that couldn't even keep her own room clean! The last day during checkout the woman behind the counter talked to her boyfriend/husband on speaker phone for 30 minutes while people were stopping by to turn in their keys. The rooms are old although they have new paint. You can hear everyone door slam or person showering. Avoid this place at all costs!
This is one of the nicest hotels we stayed in during our vacation in the Scottish Highlands. Everything about it was top notch. The location was incredibly scenic. The food and ambience in the bar was very good. The hospitality and the service displayed by the staff was outstanding. We were only there for one night and we wished we had booked our stay for longer. This was the nicest hotel we stayed at in Scotland.
