At least 3 times a year a group if us go for a quilting retreat. All the feedback is so positive. Great staff, friendly, welcoming, flexible. So clean and food- overfed and so much choice. Booked for 3 events in 2023 already and about to book for 2024. So glad we found this place.
The Development Centre accommodation suites are somewhere between 3 and 4-star in terms of what they offer. The university is a long way from anywhere else in terms of towns and is situated in the Bedfordshire countryside, reasonably close to the M1. Cranfield village is not much to look at and it's a case of having to bring your own entertainment. Having said that, there is a gym and a small indoor swimming pool, free parking, quite good places to go walking just a ten minute drive away and plenty of places to 'network' if you are in a group, with large garden patios to sit out in, and a good-sized lounge and bar. Staff are friendly and helpful and there is an early check-in of 2:00pm. The rooms themselves are a little dated and surprisingly there are no USB points but the wi-fi is good. Our only complaints were the noisy air-conditioning units- effective, but more like industrial installations and the noise from the corridors. The rooms are designed like student rooms rather than hotel rooms and noise insulation is poor. Expect excitable and slightly tipsy conference attendees late evening/early morning and very early start delegates (who hadn't been socialising the night before) at ridiculously early times when most people wouldn't yet be up. The problem is not the guests, but the design and layout of the accommodation. Most of the academic and engineering types staying there are actually polite and considerate. It makes a great change from a regular mid-range hotel- lots of public space- and the pool and other facilities to use free of charge.
It had been a while since we visited the Carrington Arms, but we'll be sure to return again soon. Such a great mixture of relaxed & friendly welcome and service combined with excellent food - a rare combination to get right. Especially as it was pretty busy for a Tuesday evening, with a couple of large groups. Despite this, we never felt service was slow or that we weren't looked after perfectly. Will was really helpful and friendly - as were all the staff - including those at the steak counter, where the option to select your meat is a great experience. We'll be back!
I went to the Broughton today for lunch, drinks and to watch the football with my husband and daughter. It is a fun and chilled space for us all to enjoy the game together ☺️ Fast service for both our food and drinks, happy staff members and a very clean baby changing space!!
Stayed at this hotel on Thursday night for a birthday. Hotel receptionist really friendly, had to enter our car registration for the car park which cost £5, if you don’t do this you will be fined £100 I think it said. We were in room 7 which had a four poster bed but very warm in the room with not much ventilation could do with a fan in the room. We had a glass of wine in the hotel reasonably priced. There is a lovely pub across the way called the Anchor and a Thai/indian restaurant which we ate at in the evening. The breakfast was cooked to order we had full English which was included in the price and was huge. 2 fried eggs, 2 sausages, 2 tomatoes, 2 bacon, mushrooms, hash brown and beans plus help yourself to toast, coffee/tea and continental items. Couldn’t fault it accept tables could have been cleaner. All in all pleasant visit maybe hotel could do with a bit of updating.
The staff are brilliant here. They cannot do enough for you but it seems to lack an overall manager who can make major decisions re maintenance when things fail at weekends. You will not meet better staff anywhere friendly and keen to make everything right. Shout out to the restaurant and bar staff for being amazing and managing the new hotplates to deliver hot food on Sat and Sunday. The conference team are amazing helping move equipment and sorting any issues. It is a shame they weren't given information on how to set up our room. We had the same set up as last year snd sent photos which didn't reach the team in time. They reorganised with a smile having to move 12 heavy chairs with arms to those without so our accordionists could play their instruments. Better communication would have avoided us having no access to our break room due to another group having officious security who were turning away anyone not in their conference group. A member of the conference team dealt with this swiftly and provided us with an alternative space. Again a Manager overseeing would have noticed the refreshment room would not accommodate this very large group as well as our small one.it seems an awful lot is put on staff to sort when someone with a complete overview should be doing this. They all deserve a massive bonus for sorting everything with a smile. Everywhere is spotless and rooms are comfortable. Thank you from Jazz accordion group to all staff on duty Thursday to Sunday Sep 12 -15th. Many Thanks Helen
Stayed here for two nights on a business trip. As previous reviews have stated, the bedrooms need updating but they were still very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and the bar was very good with a nice selection of beers and spirits. Staff were very friendly and welcoming especially Bethany and Ek. Would recommend.
