We stayed in the Herring House for 2 days, having booked before online. Email correspondence was great and on arrival we got a very nice welcome from the owners. A lot of effort has been put into the accommodation. It is modern and well fitted out and there are plenty of tourist brochures provided. Wifi was free and worked well. There are 4 bedrooms and a shared shower/toilet and shared kitchen/dining room facilities. The shower was good (hand held), if a little small. We had a double room with a nice comfortable bed. Siglufjordur is a nice fishing village which has benefited from some recent hotel investment and the well-known Herring museum. There is a campsite in the middle of the village and some nice looking restaurants. We took a drive west along the coast, where there are some great sea views. You can also walk along the avalanche fences on the hill high above the village. Some of the other villages in the area have clearly not benefitted as much from recent investment as Siglufjordur. If you are looking for a place to stay in the north of Iceland, we would definitely recommend Herring House.

Beautiful hotel surpassed only the the beauty of the setting. Nestled in the harbor and surrounded by mountains. Hotel is first class and charming. Staff greeted us with warmth and friendly smiles. Rooms feel very luxurious but this is not reflected in the price. Great room amenities, comfortable furnishings and a window seat I just had to curl up in to read my book. Great location and a very walkable town with lots to see. Make sure you venture out. Did not use the hot tub but it was popular and everyone seemed happy. We also did not dine at the restaurant for dinner; beyond our budget and we are not foodies. Unfortunately in October only 2 other choices and they opened later than we preferred as it was very cold and the sun was fading. My lovely window seat was calling so we ate a very questionable burger at the local gas station. Not our best choice, yet we were not alone. They actually we quite busy LOL. Breakfast at the hotel was wonderful and included in the room rate. Must mention, the very best part - automatic door as you enter the hotel lobby. How amazing when you arrive tired and with your hands full.
