I stayed at this Country Inn while on a recent road trip. This was a stopover when I just couldn't drive any more. The hotel is connected to what seems to be the town convention and event center. The hotel and rooms themselves were basic but serviceable. There is nothing fancy here. In fact, the hotel part really needs an upgrade out of the 1980s style dim corridors. Check in was quick. The desk clerk was friendly and efficient. The room was basic but clean. I did sleep okay here. Thankfully, the hotel was able to keep the noise of the event going on in the convention center out of the hotel part. Breakfast was fine. Again, basic but serviceable. I would suggest that in the future the cook should go easy on the pepper in the scrambled eggs or offer scrambled eggs without any pepper at all. I wouldn't seek out this Country Inn again as it just didn't offer anything beyond a simple hotel experience. However for a quick stopover, this property met those needs for me.
We picked this hotel based on the reviews. They're good, and for good reason, a we discovered. To begin with, we appreciated the online check-in... It really cut down time checking in and we liked that we could give an anticipated time of arrival, because we've lost rooms other places when arriving past dinner or later. Checking in, the lady at the counter, Amanda, was very helpful. She noted that the address from the pre- check-in didn't match the address on file. That's always been an issue - every hotel we go to, they say they'll fix the address and the next hotel is an issue again. But Amanda looked further into it and figured out that my folks have two accounts and told mom what number to call at Windom to get it fixed. Other things we appreciated: food, food, food. There were complimentary nachos out when we arrived - bagged nachos with shelf stable salsa and cheese sauce. We left for dinner and to geocache some more - came back around 9:30pm and there were complimentary cookies by the coffee station. And finally, breakfast was AMAZING. They had all the food we expect to find minimum at a complimentary breakfast - eggs & sausage, waffles, biscuits & gravy, toast. They also had six kinds of cereal, blueberry syrup and strawberries and whipped cream for the waffles, donuts, breakfast bars, 4 kinds of juice (including strawberry kiwi, which I've never seen before), and 3 kinds of jam. Including mixed berry, and let me tell you, that's dad fave so I decided to give him some for Christmas one year and it's much harder to get than it really ought to be. The rooms were nice, the beds were comfy, I appreciated the amount and practicality of the shampoos, etc. mounted in the shower, and, of course, the staff was lovely. Overall, very nice hotel and we'd be happy to stay here again any time.
