I booked this trip for with my dad hoping to get him to the beach having had a really tough year for him health wise. Unfortunately when omicron started taking off i was worried we wouldn’t be able to travel and it was possible borders could shut at any moment. Villas Argan reassured me that despite the cancellation policy they wouldn’t charge me if we were unable to travel in that instance, so we kept the booking. The borders didn’t end up shutting but i did very unfortunately contract Covid-19 myself which has meant i’ve had to cancel my trip to Costa Rica with my family very last minute, something we had desperately been looking forward to and have been devastated to do. I didn’t actually have to report this, Costa Rica’s entry policy is that you can travel to the country regardless if you are fully vaccinated as i am, but i didn’t want to risk other family members or anyone else i would come into contact with on the trip getting sick. I was really unhappy and shocked to learn that Villas Argan now intend to stick to their cancellation policy and are going to charge me. We got a full refund from United Airlines and another hotel in Costa Rica who were empathetic to the situation but not Villas Argan. I do understand that as a business Covid must be a really difficult time but individually i think it’s wrong to charge someone for something that cannot be helped, especially given their previous position on the cancellation policy in other circumstances that would’ve also been out of our control due to Covid-19. That had also contributed to the reason we kept the booking in the first place. It’s made me realise i can’t take the risk booking any trips now while Covid is actually still a prominent issue. I am genuinely very cautious when it comes to Covid-19, i’ve had both of my vaccinations, myself and friends were doing lateral flow tests before any social occasions, i tested negative on my way to the US before the intended trip to Costa Rica and i still managed to contract it. It’s just really terrible to learn that even after doing your best to be responsible during these times and getting sick and your trip that you’d been looking forward to for so long getting ruined because of Covid-19, you will still get charged over $1,000 for something you get absolutely nothing for.
