Certainly not the preferred solution but in Fuerteventura they are all large buildings, eco-monsters that overlook the beaches and unload tourists with big bellies as if they were on a cruise and getting off transatlantic ships. Population is 95% German and over seventy. Opulent breakfast and dinner with good choice; very busy buffet place despite the two dinner shifts. Fortunately the turnout is Teutonic style, noisy and congested but not chaotic as it would be if they were Italian or Spanish. Clean and functional rooms, we had a sea view and in fact we were in the front row downwind. In essence, although we avoid such structures like garlic, on this island there is no choice and this is an excellent compromise. The cost is also competitive compared to others there, even from the same SBH chain. The waitress Daiana particularly, and the receptionists, are very careful and very friendly. Also che chefs. Compliments to the staff !

Firstly I did email the hotel’s head office with this feedback but have no response - I felt I should write to you directly concerning elements of our recent stay at the above hotel and before I post other online reviews to see your response. My wife and I had stayed previously at this hotel in 2018 and found there to be certain areas where we feel that standards had fallen below what should be expected. We were not happy with our first bedroom after paying for a sea view and asked to be moved, we were just told the hotel is full. After asking again the following day and persisting and showing photographs of our view to Iris we were informed that we could move to a different room the following day. One of your reception team”Walter” certainly needs training in customer service. In relation to the buffet and dining room experience. The hotel was at 100% capacity as we were frequently told but large sections of the seating area were cordoned off. We actually requested to be moved 3 times during our stay. Generally we do find it somewhat outdated that when ordering drinks in the restaurant or any bar that a handwritten ticket is produced, a copy given to me, the customer while you retain a copy which has then to be manually keyed into a till point for it to register against our room number. Surely there is a better and more efficient method in these times of internet capability, tablets and point of sale devices. It seems overly complicated in this day and age to watch restaurant staff keying in such orders. The buffet system needs to be looked at. The cooking stations are too close together, the whole buffet area is not utilised effectively in terms of space as there are areas which are not used but large queues build up at various points. This is especially worrying at the dessert area. All the desserts are situated in a long line starting at fruit and ending with ice cream. If you only want to have something from the middle of this line for example you have to join the queue at the fresh fruit counter. Guests are not happy if you just want say ice cream and we were rudely told to go back and join the long queue. Also there is a dessert cooking station in the middle and this would be better placed away from the other desserts to help ease the backlog. As I said there is plenty of unused space in the buffet area which could be used for this. The queues for the cooked fish and eggs at breakfast were unacceptable. Items were not replenished and there was a total lack of supervision in the buffet area to check on items running out. The vegetable selection was very limited and repeated most evenings. It was just too busy for us and definitely down graded since our previous visit. We did not expect to be queuing up together into the dining room and joining a mad rush at 8am to get a table in the outside terrace! The hotel is in need of repairs and renovation. You can see from the attached photographs of our balcony and bedroom furniture that if

I was very impressed with this hotel when I first arrived. The location was perfect, the beach is a very short walk away and it is gorgeous. The architecture of the hotel is impressive, it is VERY quiet which was what I wanted, including the pool area which never livens up, even during the day! If you want somewhere peaceful, this place is great. Costa Calma is not a lively resort by any means, but provided a fab location for me as every tour provider I booked a trip with was able to pick me up from this hotel. Breakfast was good, very relaxed atmosphere. Mainly because it wa so quiet all the time. But that was a good thing! Evening meal got a bit boring after a few days as the menu didn't change much, but it was edible. Only downside is that despite me paying for half board, evening drinks were extra...over three euros for a tiny bottle of Coke or Fanta. Safe cost 27 euros extra, wifi cost extra, even tea and coffee in the room cost extra. Beach towels...yes, extra. Good job I brought my own. A four star hotel should be providing things for free. It is about keeping guests happy, not trying to make extra money out of us. The room was fine although you could tell it was a few years old. Some cosmetic repairs wouldn't go amiss. Air con was next to useless sadly. Overall though, I was happy with my choice. Until day four, when things went downhill. So...upon arrival at the hotel I was given a card with my name and room number on. I was told to take it to the restaurant in the evening. So I did. However, the head waiter told me on my first night that this didn't matter and I could sit anywhere (like you do at breakfast). I had previously been led to believe tables were reserved, and assumed this is what the card was for, but this didn't appear the case. Fine, no dramas. For four nights I just sat anywhere, and nobody said anything. Day four, and by this time I was fuming at the small expensive drinks in the restaurant. I was hot and dehydrated, and needed to take some medication before dinner. So on my way down I bought a small 90c bottle of water from the hotel shop. I went in the restaurant, sat down and took my tablets with this water, with the intention of still buying yet another over priced Coke. Another problem with this was the fact that most nights I would finish my first plate of food before anyone even took my drink order! Anyway...a waitress, whose name sadly I did not get, came to my table and saw my water. I immediately asked for a Coke Zero, as usual. However, she ignored this and started to "tell me off" in Spanish, gesturing with her hands and raising her voice, clearly trying to tell me my water was not allowed in the restaurant. I explained as best I could that I spoke "Ingles"......several times, but she carried on, looking cross and talking to me with a stern, angry look. Honestly, it left me feeling like a naughty child. I was upset after this, and quite angry. But the next evening I went down again as normal

To be honest my stay was tainted by my arrival. The receptionist who checked me in said that I needed to pay for my stay, even though I had already paid via *******. When I got to my room there is an absolutely terrible smell, what smelt like strong cigars or burning. I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out the cause of the smell - when I found the fridge I noticed ash on the floor below it and that some of the front door seal had burnt. So the smell was in fact toxic burnt plastic! Because I have social anxiety and I I found the receptionists intimidating, plus I was knackered from travelling all day, I decided to keep the room, unplug the fridge and put it on the balcony. It took over 24 hours with the patio door open and repeatedly using air freshener and air neutraliser to finally get rid of the smell. I noticed another fridge on a stairwell that looked burnt, so I have to question the safety of them. The hotel itself is in a great location with the beach right in front. Considering how big it is, its lovely and peaceful in the communal areas. The majority of customers are older Germans. The daily breakfast was good with a big variety of options. The rooms look somewhat dated but are fine.

I spent a week alone here and it was the perfect place for total R&R. The hotel is lovely and kept spotlessly clean, my room was spacious and the bed was super comfy. Waking to the sound of the waves every morning was bliss. The food was of a really high standard (except the one night I had some raw chicken!) and there was plenty of variety to suit all tastes. The beachfront location is a bonus and you can walk for some distance along it. I had a massage in the spa which was so poor I stopped it after 30 mins (was supposed to be 80) but the staff were very nice about it and offered me a free 30 mins which I didn't take them up on. I think I just just unlucky. If you like daytime entertainment this isn't the place for you as the vibe around the pool is laid back and relaxed, which suited me. Loads of people reserved sunbeds although there was really no need as there were always plenty available at any time of day. I didn't notice any other Brits here, the hotel clientele is mainly German, which is worth bearing in mind if you like to be sociable on holiday. There is an on-site shop but I tended to use the Spar supermarket which is a short stroll up the road and much cheaper. All in all a lovely break and I'd really recommend this hotel.

If you are looking for a quiet, quality hotel in a superb location then the SBH Costa Calma Palace is perfect. The hotel is situated on a beautiful sandy beach in the quiet town of Costa Calma, the location is truly superb. The hotel is kept immaculately clean and the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. The hotel has large swimming pools of which one is heated for the cooler months, there are numerous sunbeds and you will not have any issues getting a great spot. They also have a sunbed section on a private beach just off the main beach. The food is outstanding, the quality and choice is amazing - I believe it would be impossible not to find something you would enjoy eating. I was amazed at the high standard with fresh baked bread every morning and evening, incredible seafood and at least 4 cooking stations offering freshly carved meat, grilled meats, fish, pasta, paella etc. Deserts are great too offering the usual cakes and deserts but also a cooking station with a hot desert of the day. The hotel is generally what you would class as quiet with many of the guests more mature in years - yet there is lively entertainment in the evening for those that like. Practically: the rooms are lovely, immaculately cleaned with a great shower. There is ample shower gel and shampoo supplied but you will need conditioner. There is a kettle you can use but you do pay for the tea bags and coffee - so best supply your own. There is a fridge in the room for your own drinks, free WiFi was fast, beach towels are available for a returnable deposit. The safe however, is something where there is a daily charge. The hotel has a large free carpark for those with hire cars. Costa Calma is a quiet resort with just a handful of shops and restaurants. The nearest Spar Supermarket is just a 10 minute stroll away. A free bus is available to Oasis Wildlife Park which is worth a visit and there is a bus to the nearest town of Marro Jable where you will find miles of beautiful sandy beaches, loads of shops, restaurants, cafés, boat trips etc. We holiday in the Canary Islands 3 or 4 times a year and have been twice now to this hotel and I can hand on heart say that the SBH Costa Calma Palace is our favourite.

We arrived at our hotel (Crystal Beach -Adults Only) on New Year's Eve to be told the hotel is full!! I was very anxious as we had researched the hotel we booked. We were called a taxi and transfered to the Costa Calma Palace in SBH Group (not adults only - no problem for us). First impression was the hotel looked very nice. Reception staff were very accommodating and helpful. We were given complimentary drinks at the bar. Being NYE we wanted to celebrate but dinner booking was 5.30pm we asked to change this but had to go to the dining room to sort this out ourselves, we managed to find restaurant manager and change this before the first cover. NYE Night we went to dinner, more complimentary drinks and praise by the Manager to the staff and various managers! Musician on hand to entertain us all. Dinner you have to sit at the same table for your stay - we were up a corner in the restaurant not in the main part but staff were lovely in our section. Food was outstanding and very special as it was NYE. Fireworks on NYE were brilliant too. There was lots of choice each day for breakfast and dinner. The one thing that did not seem necessary was long trousers for men in the evening, smart chino shorts should also be acceptable, jeans worn every night as did not expect this to be the case. Other's wore jeans and shirts so not exactly smart dress. The rooms were comfortable, beds comfortable but needed more pillows. Rooms very clean. Have to pay for the safe €27.50 per week which is quite expensive. Tea bags €1 each, coffee€1 cost for all what you would expect to be complimentary even the water€2 - However there is Spar down the road but our fridge was not very cold. Rooms have hairdryers, and there is towels aplenty. For beach towels it is €10 a towel deposit and €1 per change of beach towel if you need a clean one Grounds are nice and maintained - unbrellas and some beds need updating as very old. If you go to beach the beds it cost €15 for 2 beds and umbrella. If you want to visit Oasis Wildlife Park you can get complimentary bus to the attraction, just ask at reception staff will advise pick up times and where to get the bus - admission is €39.5 for adults €25 child €35 if 60+ pensioners Overall our stay was very good, comments about food could be warmer is true often tepid if you attend later after the restaurant opens/reopens. Staff are helpful and pleasant. Thank you for a pleasant stay and a Happy New Year!!

Well, welcome was not very promising. First, I got a room on the 4th level (same as reception) and it looked at the building in front ( in which the restaurant is) so very little view on the ocean in the background. Besides, when you're on the balcony, people passing by over the building and can see you. I asked for room change ( any level higher than 4th) but was told it is possible only with 35euros extra per day. I was immediately offered 4.5e per day for the safe and 10e deposit for the beach towels. I refused. Next strage thing was they have two shifts for dinner: 17.30-19 and 19.30-21h.You have to select one and can't change diring your stay. Next unpleasan surprise was that I came to dinner in denim shorts ( quite descent in my opinion) but I was sent BACK by the hotel director to wear long trousers! I freaked out, it was too much for an evening. I wanted to leave immediately. Staff at the reception told me it was written on a piece of paper they hand out but still why I should read all these texts just after arrival? If this is the rule it should be made clear during booking and in bold letters! It is not usual for a hotel in Spain and I was in several. As other comments said, building needs renovation, facade paint is falling off. Guests are on average above 65-70 years old, so you feel a bit like in a home for retired people. Otherwise food was ok and staff in the restaurant polite and reception staff too. Location on the beach is also good.
