I can't say enough great things about Lough Eske Castle, it's staff, restaurant, and property. Don't miss out on a night or two in a castle with the best Irish hospitality you'll find anywhere. Definitely wish we'd had more time!
We stayed last Saturday night and had a very comfortable evening here. The hotel is light and bright and clean inside. We were given a friendly welcome and our room was very clean and looked recently refurbished. The bed was very comfortable. The room was too warm, even with the windows open and the radiator turned right down, you could have probably asked for a fan. We had a swim in the Leisure Centre. I usually don't enjoy it if a hotel's pool is really a Leisure Centre because they aren't normally as nice looking as a private hotel pool but this was nicer than most, with steps down in, not a ladder and there was a steam room and jacuzzi and 2 heated loungers. We were lucky as it was open until 7pm and it was quiet, I think there may be times it may not be as quiet. You have to wear a cap, which I dislike, but hey-ho, a lot of hotels down south request this, maybe particular council rules or something? Although some hotels waive it? We ate in Chapter Twenty and I must say this restaurant is stunning looking, the decor is so chic and modern and a beautiful colour palette. I am not a foodie so don't go to really posh restaurants but you would think you were in a high end restaurant here, I had the best of both worlds here with delicious food in the most gorgeous setting. The menu had plenty of choice, normal steak, fish, burgers. I had the Mexican taco basket which was lovely and my husband enjoyed a burger. The apple crumble was to die for and the lemon tart was very good too,. There was a blip with the order which was dealt with really well, the staff were very good, Collum looked after us and was a gentleman. The buffet breakfast the next morning was very good and well run by the staff there, I do think there should be a wee sign at the bottom of the stairs to direct people upstairs, we sat there afterwards and the number of people who walk through to go to Chapter Twenty, or stand at the bottom confused as where to go, even though you can hear the noise above, I could have gotten a job, directing them upstairs. The hotel is well situated for discovering Donegal, we are happy to recommend it and would return, especially to the restaurant. Thank you.
We would highly recommend this hotel. Very comfortable clean rooms, beautifully decorated. The staff at this hotel and truly lovely, all very professional, helpful and pleasant. The food is well prepared with quality ingredients and very tasty, one of the best hotel breakfasts ever! We also had lunch here and a cream tea, which were really delicious and served with a smile. Really good location, we stayed here for four nights as we were in Donegal for a wedding, would definitely stay here again.
Overall a disappointing experience. Getting checked in wasn’t easy as they were more interested in coach parties than solo travellers. Initially told 15:30 for check in, then 16:00 for check in and didn’t get checked in til 16:15. The room overlooked an internal space in the hotel and you could see into other rooms and there was no courtesy cover on the windows, such as voile or muslin. No towels were in my room and I believe this was the case in many rooms that day. This internal space overlooked ventilation ducts or something similar and the noise from these went on to the early hours of the morning and then started up again perhaps around 5:00. Out of 5 nights staying only on the final night was the noise stopped at an acceptable time. Breakfast was slightly warmer than warm but cooled down very quickly and was barely pleasant. Food in the Abbey Bar was ok but expensive for portion size. Overall while it’s a 3 star hotel there are many areas for significant improvement and the corridors etc are very tired and grubby looking. I wouldn’t rush back but believe the hotel next door to it is also part of the same corporate group. It’s a highly competitive market in west Donegal and I’m surprised the abbey can maintain its level of service based on what I experienced.
I’ve never experienced such friendly, welcoming and hospitable hotel staff in a long time! We recently stayed at the hotel for two nights as part of Cycling Ulster’s leisure weekend. The staff could not do enough for us. Our requests were met with a smile and nothing was any bother. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the breakfast was first class. Our booking included two evening meals and these were also first class. The menu had plenty of choice. The value for money was exceptional. Thank you for making our weekend so relaxing and enjoyable. The hotel is so convenient to the town. We had a ball and will be back again soon.
RRoam07962254281After a long trip, we arrived at this hotel and my impression was not great. I rang the hotel early in the day to say that it would not be there until late and could we have evening dinner tomorrow instead of tonight. The person who answered said that I had no dinner booked and it took a while to resolve the matter. The 2nd was that I asked for 2 wine glasses to be left in the room. I asked this man as well but when I arrived, there was still no glasses in the room. This is poor attention to detail. There certainly was no ”Cead Mile Failte” from the receptionist when I arrived. He genuinely seemed like he would prefer to be in bed than saying hello to guests. The room on the 2nd floor was comfortable. 2 twin beds, 2 comfortable chairs, a very good shower/bathroom area and the room itself was decent. However it got quite warm during the night. I would have reservations staying in this hotel if it was a hot day. Yes you can open the window and pray that it is not that noisy. Breakfast was very odd. It is served in the conference room. The seating and tables are lovely but where you get your food is like it is a school/prison canteen. The contrasts could not have been more different. Service was ok if slightly indifferent. However along came Natasha who was so friendly and went out of her way to help. She is one of two reasons why I gave this hotel four instead of three stars. There is a lot of reasons why this hotel is very average. The other was Patricia. As part of this package, we had evening dinner on a Saturday evening. We had to eat in the restaurant as the bar was fully booked. Patricia went out of her way to make sure we were looked after, constantly asking if we were ok while other staff just walked around doing nothing. Dinner was excellent and breakfast was decent as well. The swimming pool is lovely and it is refreshing to see that the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna all worked. The lady at reception was very attentive and explained everything which is great. Again as we left, the receptionist felt like he had better things to do. There was no ”how was the stay”. It was goodbye and your bill is paid. There is certainly a number of things this hotel can do better but thankfully they have a few star performers. Pity about some others though.
What a fabulous experience. Stayed for one night, B&B and four course dinner package. Firstly, the food at this hotel is superb, honestly would class it as 5* gourmet food. I would stay here again for the food alone. The views from the restaurant are fantastic and the staff are exceptional. The room we stayed in had a beautiful view of the sea. The only minus is that the mattress may need replacing, as it was not the most comfortable. Also the bathroom would require updating, it's a little tired and in need of a makeover. However, I cannot recommed this hotel enough and certainly will plan to go back very soon!
ゲゲストOn the inside the house has a old warm style with many pictures and paintings giving it a home like feeling. The food is incredible. There is a new chef now, I didnt try the food before but now it is like a 5 star restaurant. On top of that the staff are friendly and service is quite fast. They can also take in any number of people, even as a very large group they could take us because its quite a quiet place. We all would love to come back but it is a bit expensive but worth it considering how good the food is.
