San Juan Hotel

I have been to France many times through the years and enjoyed the awesome pastries. South of the US, I have struggled to find croissants worthy of the name, that is, until now. Trying to find pastry and coffee at 7;30 am before most of Cuenca has even awakened? That is no simple task. I walked and walked to 3 places, according to google, which would be open; no luck. Happily, I found the gorgeous San Juan Hotel and their sweet coffee and pastry area. The chocolate croissant was equal to any I've eaten in France, truly; flaky, buttery, and filled with excellent quality chocolate. When I mentioned how pleased I was, the wait staff asked if I would like to meet the chef. Alexis Paredes, is the genius. Upon conversing with him, he told me that he is self taught re: making croissants. Thank you Alexis Paredes!! M. Sarlat

The hotel is a colonial building very well conserved. The room are very nice, and the service is excellent. The hotel has many small places to sit and enjoy. Also a very nice garden, that you see from some of the room. There is also a spa, and very high end rooms. The breakfast is very good, and in some days you get specialties like Ceviche de camarón y trucha, or mote pillo, two nice local dishes, along with a well served continental breakfast. Juice of Andean Mora is a must. Location is right in the center of the Historic neighborhood of Cuenca, two blocks down the Cathedral, better imposible.

We loved the charm of the property, the attention to detail and the attentiveness of the staff. The location is fantastic, as well! The off-site parking was a bit inconvenient and the rooms were a little damp. But overall, our experience was wonderful and we will be back!

This is overall a lovely hotel, but we had a windowless room, right above the lobby. Basically, you could look down from the hall into the lobby. Our room was super dark and noisy. I could hear the phone ringing in the middle of the night. Also, the wifi was awful. The desk manager tried to help, but it kept going in and out. We tried to watch a movie on our computers and finally gave up. Breakfast was nice and the common spaces are lovely. But, the dark, noisy room with lousy wifi was definitely overpriced. Perhaps other rooms are much nicer.

Beautiful hotel very friendly staff restaurant needs big improvement

Está enclavado en pleno centro histórico de Cuenca lo que cobra un valor espectacular ya que todo es muy cerca, su arquitectura es fenomenal, sus fachadas, calles, la gente, un hotel con gente maravillosa con excelente actitud, desayuno variado y generoso, seguridad, hotel lleno de historia, excelente descanso habitaciones amplias. Lo recomiendo

Un hôtel en plein centre de Cuenca à 5 minutes à pied de la place principale. Beaucoup de chambres réparties entre différents patios. Tailles très variables (de minuscules à géantes...). La déco est plutôt "château de Versailles" et frôle le kitch. Les SDB sont sans charme et mériteraient d'être rafraichies. La literie est très confortable. Les espaces intérieurs de l'hôtel sont nombreux. La salle du petit déjeuner est plutôt agréable.

Una sola noche bastó para regresar en el tiempo a la era colonial, un hotel donde su infraestructura es una maravilla, no es fácil encontrar hoteles en las zonas céntricas tan bien conservados. Habitaciones y baños amplios y limpios, excelente lencería, no se escucha ruido exterior, seguro, buen descanso, personal amable, desayuno buffet variado, restaurante bellísimo. Cada rincón del Hotel San Juan inspira. Y lo mejor excelente ubicación.

Twee nachten geslapen in dit hotel. De ligging ten opzichte van het centrum is perfect, vlakbij het parque Calderón. De kamers zien er goed verzorgd uit, het hotel straalt een elegante sfeer uit. Jammergenoeg zijn de kamers erg gehorig. Elk geluid hoor je. De bedden zijn prima, de douche redelijk, het ontbijt erg sober voor een 4-sterrren hotel. De receptionisten vond ik erg slecht. Heb een paar keer erg lang bij de receptie moeten wachten terwijl de receptioniste een privegesprek voerde met een collega van de huishouding. Heb wat kleding laten wassen (heel erg duur!!!) en die was ineens verdwenen. De receptioniste moest hier om lachen, ik vond het bijzonder vervelend. Gelukkig kwam de was toch boven water voordat wij uitcheckten. Een groot compliment voor Manuel. Hij weer wat klantvriendelijkheid inhoudt!
