Golden Beach Resort

I’ve been going to GBR for 40 years. I’ve enjoyed dozens of family vacations as a kid and with my own family and kids. I know the property very well and I know it’s been bought by great blue resorts. I’ve tented, trailered, cottaged, fished, been to weddings and spent tens of thousands of dollars there over the years. Today I called to make a reservation to camp and fish for a few days. I have a truck camper(no toilet) and 18’ fishing boat. When I inquired about staying, the young lady on the phone informed me they no longer accept units that do not have TOILETS! Nothing against the young lady, but I suspect I’ve been holidaying at GBR longer than she’s been alive. Anyways, I’ll take my money elsewhere from now on. This place is trash ever since the sisters have sold it…so disappointing.

Golden Beach Resort is a scenic, lakefront cottage resort. The location is a prime spot for boating and fishing, offering picturesque views of the sunrise and sunset on Rice Lake. My husband and I came for a weekend in June and were very impressed by the waterfront location of our cottage and its proximity to the amenities. I enjoyed using the outdoor pool, while he passed the time fishing in the marina in front of our cottage. We took advantage of the complimentary kayak rentals and took them out to fish ***** the shoreline. The cottage itself was clean, spacious, and equipped with everything we needed to cook and prepare our meals. In the evenings, we enjoyed having a fire and toasting marshmallows. We recommend bringing toasting sticks for marshmallows, as the cottage does not provide them. The check-in process was smooth, quick and efficient, and the staff were always happy to assist with any inquiries we had throughout our stay. There are handy essential items such as milk, eggs, and supplies to make a campfire available for purchase at the welcome center. We loved the delicious Kawartha ice cream available at the poolside ice cream parlor, and for purchase at the welcome center to take back to our cottage. I’d recommend Golden Beach Resort to families looking for an exciting place to entertain their kids – an onsite splashpad, pool and playground plus the planned activities are great for families. It is also a wonderful place for couples looking for a getaway by the water.

Great vacation! Pros: -beach was clean and the water was shallow enough for our 1 year old twins to play safely -cottage we rented was clean, decent size for 6 of us and two dogs, and had a very nice view of the harbour and the lake (cottage 18) -very friendly and helpful staff throughout the resort -splash pad was a big hit for our twins and it was in great shape -pool was in decent shape and was clean -kids activities were good Cons: -we looked forward to using the jumping dock just off the beach but it was constantly covered with seagulls and a ton of poop -we were sent a email with a list of items they supply for the cottage and we weren’t provided everything that we were told we would have (no paper towels, no baking sheet, no dual coffee maker, no fly swatter, no ice cube trays, no scissors, no knife set, no coffee pods, no strainer) -we also were told we’d have 4 muskoka chairs for the firepit and we were provided 1 -our “complimentary bag of wood” was 3 very small pieces of wood. The bags of wood they sell at the store were $15 and had a lot more wood in them -the lot (cottage 18) was a beautiful view, however, people were constantly using it to cut across to the boats in the harbour. Our one year old twins were playing in the grass area between the porch and our fire pit and a golf cart cut through and got way too close to the girls. We ended up having to move the picnic table to block people from cutting across -people would park right beside our fire pit to go to the harbour. Some cars were so close we could not fit a chair in between the fire pit and their car -playground has not been updated since our family owned a trailer here 20 years ago Overall it’s a great resort and very dog/family friendly! It’s clean, friendly staff, and lots to do for the kids. We enjoyed our stay and booked it again for next year!

At arrival, another charge for parking a second vehicle, though I had already added that to my reservation. They has told me that morning that towel and linens were provided, however, no towels. We did get then at the main building. They list DVDs for rainy days, but again had to go to the main building to get it. Restaurant was closed Monday and Tuesday which was disappointing that we had to go get more food, an hour drive. We ate at the restaurant on Wednesday, food was great. They could be making some much if it was open. It only opens at 4pm. Snack bar by the pool was closed the entire time we were there. Really, in the middle of summer? Store is very well equipped for anything you may have forgotten. Boat rentals are super expensive, twice the price of other places I've visited. Disappointing. Check out time was an hour earlier than I had been told in an email as well. They really need to update the web site to all this so people aren't disappointed. Cabin and site were clean, modern and very enjoyable. Beach is very small and only a few chairs are provided. We were on the marina 2 side, so much algae in the water, even the dogs couldn't go in. We did drive to the other side of the park to let them swim, however that is very rocky and slimy, so we couldn't get in there either. Price was a little high for what you get. Would return for a fun girl's weekend.

This Restaurant definitely needs a chance to be found So people from Northumberland county- Cobourg Have a place to go summer months. We have a new chef who is spectacular. We are huge foodies. His burgers, fish tacos, brisket sandwich is without a doubt my new all time favourites. The service is great. The patio is great. They have live outdoor music. The resort itself is great. No restaurant, I’m out

Stayed here for a couple of nights during our 18 day holiday to Ontario from Scotland. Stayed in cottage 18 Sunset Bay Road which was a great size with excellent facilities. Good restaurant/bar, outdoor pool and water sports as well as other activities to keep everyone happy. Only negatives were the car park outside front of cottage spoiling the views and late night noise / music from boats. Great place to chill out on road trip between Ottawa & Toronto.

This is our 3rd year coming to Golden Beach , ***** with our children & grandchildren. The grandchildren look so forward to coming. They enjoy all the amenities they offer. Fishing, swimming, park, lake, kayaking , park, splash pad. We enjoy having bonfires , making so many memories. The staff is so friendly and welcoming.

We just completed a wedding weekend and I cannot comment enough about the amazing staff under the employ of this resort. Every single staff member was incredibly attentive to our needs, even those that were ever changing. If anyone wishes to hold a wedding or major event at this resort - DO NOT HESITATE - Cindy, the events manager is TOP-NOTCH and the staff will ensure your experience is incredibly memorable.

We had a nice holiday at Golden Beach. We like the peace fullness there. Staff and people are friendly. A updated box spring for the queen size bed is needed.we did a lot of walking . And fishing, and travelled around there. planning to be back there next year.
