I stayed for one night at the Hotel Indigo in Exeter. My partner had given me for my birthday a spa treat and so I found Hotel Indigo which had great reviews. I called to book a room for one night with my friend. We meet up once a year and Exeter is our midway point (she is in Cornwall, I am in the midlands). When I booked the room I explained it was a spa break and that I would also like to book treatments. That is fine, came the reply. And she said after I had booked and paid for the room she would forward me to the spa reception. So I paid almost £200 for a room and then waited on hold. And waited. I gave up after twenty minutes and called again the next day. As did my partner. Repeatedly. Then I emailed reception with my request. I received no response. Ten days later we arrived at the hotel at 2.30pm to check in. Although disappointed that we wouldn’t have treatments I thought at least we can use the spa facilities during our visit. We were told by reception to pop down to the spa and speak to the girls. We did as advised; to find the door locked and nobody there. We went back to reception and was then told by Danny that he knew the 4-6 slot was full and there were no more slots available for the day. I explained that I had emailed and phoned and he was very sweet but couldn’t help. We tried the spa again about an hour later and still there was nobody there and the door was locked. So there was nothing else we could do. I decided that we should go out shopping and then go for a rooftop drink before dinner. We went up only to find that that was closed on a Monday. Then at 10.30pm I suggested we try the main bar for a cocktail only to be told that the bar wasn’t doing cocktails and they would be shutting in fifteen minutes. In the morning we went for breakfast at our allotted time and the waitress gave us the menus and then we never saw her again. After fifteen to twenty minutes of waiting I got up and asked the staff who were chatting by the continental area if I was supposed to order from them. The hotel is beautiful, the interior design perfection and most of the staff are sweet but it isn’t enough. I booked the hotel because I wanted a spa break and could not have been clearer with the woman when I booked and before I paid for the room. Frankly it is fraud to take my partners money and then not allow me to use the hotel for the reason I had booked it. If you say it is a spa hotel, then it shouldn’t be mission impossible to be able to use it. If you advertise a rooftop bar, it should say clearly that it is not open on a Monday. It was a long way for us both to come for us to be let down so badly.

Great place to stay . The friendliest and polite staff for check in , breakfast and dinner . They seemed very stretched out and covering many areas but they remained professionals , calm and composed . We had breakfast in the morning and that was a proper english breakfast , fresh ,well cooked and plentyful . We decided to have dinner in the evening and that was also great . We had a stake beautifully cooked and my husband had curry that was also very very good . Great experience , very nice staff and clean hotel ! Well done all 💜

We arrived late having been to a concert and on returning to the car park found it was locked up until 7am. The receptionist on arrival was just amazing, finding us a room helping us book it on line for a better deal and finding a tooth brush each. We had no over night things as we’d had no plan for staying over. Can’t praise her enough!

We stayed because our husbands were going to the rugby and the girls having a trip into Exeter. Location of the hotel was perfect not a long walk to the train station for us to get into town. On arrival at 12.30 reception was full queues of people trying to check in or leave bags. A man was sent out to take our car registration and names and then we could wait in the bar until they were ready for us. The boys waited in the bar and we headed off. They were checked in before 3 when they had to leave for the rugby which was good but to be honest we knew we were early and would have been happy leaving the luggage. We were told out of the 3 couples we had an upgrade to what turned out to be an accessible room and to be honest it isn’t an upgrade. I would have preferred the room we had booked which certainly wasn’t accessible. One of the other couples was over charged by £70 on check in - which we did sort out on our return. Whilst shopping we checked to see if our mobile key was ready but no we had to go to check in and do that on return to the hotel so they could Id us seems to defeat the object. On arrival back joined a queue again to activate the mobile key. It seems to be the longest slowest check of any hotel I have stayed in. When we finally got to the front we were given a normal key as it might take a while for the mobile one to work. Good job because it took nearly an hour to activate and then when I tried it it wouldn’t work with my phone. We then went to the bar before dinner again it was packed we managed to get a table but only 2 servers so wait for drinks was a little long. Price was ok. We had a table booked in the view for dinner and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. Again restaurant was very busy but the staff were lovely. Couldn’t have water. On the table as the waitress informed us they had run out of jugs, we said we would wait but she said no they had no jugs? She had to keep topping up from a bottle and she wasn’t allowed to leave the bottle on the table. Perhaps a trip to the next door IKEA May have sorted that. The main meal came with various items missing off of each plate, salsa, salad and chips. Overall was nice though. Breakfast was an another matter, we sat in the bar as the restaurant was packed. The design of the restaurant for breakfast is awful. People queueing for hot food past the croissants and bread and toaster so someone is always in the way. The fruit and cold meat and cheeses on the end of the hot line so missed by a lot of people. Only Greek or soya p,Ian yoghurt noth8ng flavoured, ran out of compote and fruit. Had to ask for the orange juice to be topped up. Just very disorganised and badly set out. Now I know it was a busy rugby weekend but the hotel are obviously fully aware of this. The staff were pleasant and the food in the evening lovely, in the morning ok. The room was clean and lovely - definitely not an upgrade though so please don’t make out it was. I would stay again if husband was going t
This was my first visit here after being recommended by work colleagues. The hotel has a strange set out with rooms in different blocks, more like a motel. Unfortunately my room(room 3) had a lot of noise from the adjoining rooms which kept me awake during the night. The food in the restaurant was excellent, no complaints with friendly staff behind the bar. Plenty of parking which seemed secure. Good location right beside the bypass on the way down to Cornwall.
Third and last stay at this hotel. Spent £1,190 on 2 rooms for 2 nights to bring my mother for a treat. On our second night, I was kept awake until nearly 1am by the noise of people in the bar and the staff clearing up. I went down twice in my pjs to ask them to reduce the noise as I wanted to sleep. The next morning the manager eventually and reluctantly agreed it would have been possible to at least shut the 2 doors to the bar and restaurant area so that the noise wouldn't have travelled so easily. The owner was vile about it all and refused or didn't even understand that noise travels and has now banned me from returning (knowing I wouldn't)! So don't stay in the Ivory room if you want some peace at 12.45am. There was never anyone at reception to collect/leave keys with, and we would ring the doorbell repeatedly to try and get someone, look in the bar area etc but couldn't find anyone. My observations on this and the consequent lack of security and possible impact on their insurance arrangements was again met with anger. Cleanliness is also an issue - black mould in the shower, dirty carpet, clump of hair on the bathroom floor (which I had put from the shower into the bin but it was obviously dropped on the floor when the room was cleaned) etc. No sheet on the under mattress. Have seen from negative reviews elsewhere that this will be met with a horrible reply from the owners - they don't want to raise their standards or apologise for anything.
I just needed a place to stay in Exeter for two nights and found this Bendene Townhouse, which is near the railway station. The room contained everything I needed (tea and a kettle, mostly) and the bathroom was spacious. There was a large sliding window that led onto a terrace, with others guests on the opposite side (quite noisy, but that is not the hotel's fault). I'd have given it five stars but for the slightly damaged table top on the table that the water kettle was on, and two big spiders which I found in the room, as I am somewhat arachnophobic. The checking-in and payment process was smooth and agreeable, and someone was available to come to our aid when we came back late at night and we had run out of loo paper. All things considered, this was a good room in a good location at a reasonable price.
What a lovely room. Stayed in room 3 from 5th September to the 6th September. Checked in pretty late 9.30pm. Staff was very welcoming and polite. Didn't get the try the food as the kitchen was closed. As for the room, it was very modern. Bed was very comfortable and a decent amount of pillows. Smart TV in room, free WiFi, cleanliness was not an issue. Shower was very powerful. Parking was not an issue either. Could easly fit my 3.5t luton van in the car park. For £50 this was a bargain coming from someone who spends attest 1 night a week in hotels due to work. Would highly recommend.
Fabulous budget hotel! Friendly manager, newly refurbished (just one or two floor coverings awaiting replacement once all the other works are finished), extremely clean, very comfortable bed, hot shower with soft fluffy towels, new air conditioning units recently installed in the rooms. Despite reading mixed reviews on TripAdvisor, I booked due to the price, free parking (just leave registration number at Reception) and easy on-site EV charging and had no complaints at all. No food available currently (except possibly breakfast by prior arrangement), but there’s a Shell garage close by for sandwiches and snacks. The EV chargers are tethered InstaVolt fast chargers (see ZapMap), so the cost per kWh is extremely high. There’s no socket to plug in a Type 2 cable for older EV cars, but these are available at the next hotel up the road, subject to parking restrictions.
