フォントヴロー ロテル(Fontevraud l'Ermitage)

Extraordinarily beautiful ground and physical plant repurposed for a hotel. Room are spacious. Beds comfortable. Shower walk in and sizeable. Views aplenty. At night with the windows open - no noise - except that of the forest. Parking a bit distant which allows for taking in the property anew each in and out but while essentially flat might prove challenging to some.

It is a wonderful place with unrepeatable atmosphere. Food, wine, the hotel itself, but most important the surrounding of the Abbey full of history an mystery. Definitely recommend as a place for business events and just for regular stay. I wish I could return here again.

We have stayed at the hotel as a family party on several occasions over some 25 years. It is in a unique location with access for hotel guests to wander round the adjacent Abbaye after it closes to the public. Hotel facilities are beautifully fitted into the historic buildings. The atmosphere is one of serenity. We could not recommend it more highly.

We loved our stay an had a warm welcome. We ordered diner at our room, because the restaurant was fully booked. Bringing the wine and bread before diner, would have been better. But still we loved staying at such a rich and historic place. Would love to come back.

I was there on business and the time spent in the hotel was too short. Everything is well thought out and I recommend it to anyone who wants a unique experience. It is my intention to go back for future vacation time with my family. I intend to return for future vacations with my family. Tout simplement bravo !

This is an amazing location, Fontevraud L’Abbaye is incredible and to be able to stay on site is such a privilege. The Hotel is clean with a minimalist vibe, but well organized and aesthetically blends in well with its environment. Rooms are basic but have all necessary amenities, beds were a little hard, with just one pillow (we asked for another). Breakfast was lovely.

It is truely a unique experience to be able to stay at the abbey and to wonder through it as a hotel guest at night was amazing. We had a group of 9 friends staying and a mixup with our reservation caused us to have to stay at another property for one of our two nights, the team at Fontevraud L’Hotel worked very hard to sort this out for us and we are very great full they did, thank you. This is a very special location with very helpful staff.

This hotel was a delight to stay at. I chose to stay here between my time in Seville, Spain and Paris. I rented a car from the Paris Orly airport (very easy three hour drive with many of things to see along the way if you have time - I visited Château de Chenonceau). The hotel was beautiful and obviously steeped in history. My room was very well appointed with a bedroom and an adjoining room for relaxing (and of course a bathroom). I found the windows and the view to be charming. While the building is historical, it has all the usual modern amenities including an elevator (but no AC - this did not bother me in the least and the room also had a fan available). The staff was kind and exceptionally helpful as well as being friendly. They also were able to postmark my postcards which was a very nice perk. Additionally, complimentary coffee was provided and when I wanted milk, all I needed to do was ask. One of the things I enjoyed most was the food (though I will leave a review of the restaurant separately). From the hotel itself, I arranged to have breakfast delivered to the room so I did not have to wake up early (aside from taking it from the staff when they delivered it). The food was from the restaurant but the order was easily facilitated by the hotel staff. For a very reasonable price of 25 euros I received a veritable feast. If you planned to do a day trip from the hotel, it could have easily been breakfast and lunch. I also ordered a basket dinner on my second night. Again, it is prepared by the restaurant but ordering is handled by the front desk (you just choose a time and then pick it up). Quite tasty and the dishes that were intended to be served warm stayed hot. You could eat it in the salon, anywhere on the grounds, or in your room. One of the things that attracted to me to this hotel was that you have access to the Abbey grounds after hours. It is an impressive complex that was built centuries ago and the Plantagenet Necropolis was a high point for me given my fascination with Eleanor of Aquitaine. However, if you have any interest in history, it is worth a visit. I explored during the day but obtained an audio tour to listen to at night (the museum staff gave it to me but I was able to leave it at the front desk the next morning to be returned). Additionally, the museum (though access is not included with the hotel access to the Abbey) was quite impressive. The visiting exhibit was a collection of Rembrandt's etching and the permanent collection is quite nice as well. All in all, I have nothing but good things to say. This was a peaceful respite from the hurried pace of Seville and Paris filled with good food, history, and gorgeous scenery that I would visit again if I were in the area.

Walk in the footsteps of Eleanor of Aquitaine until well after the midnight hour, in the courtyards, cloisters, church and chapter house of the great abbey, before falling asleep in the modernized comfort of a former monastic cell in the Sainte Lazare priory, once an infirmary. You don't need to worry about deprivation here; every attention has been given to creature comfort, while keeping to the minimalist approach in keeping with the history of the place. the result is a magical experience not to be found anywhere else. This is a place that will haunt me; I would love to return for a week or more just to soak in the atmosphere of serenity that remains in that space.
