My only regret is my visit to Gabala was only two days one night. The hotel was spotless. Food good, breakfast excellent and staff really friendly and happy to help. Rooms large and great AC. Panoramic views from rooms and restaurant are stunning. Good sized walk in showers. This hotel is actually a formal stop on the cable cars which take you up and across these mountains. You must try them but not if you are scared of heights ! Gabala is a very traditional Azerbaijani town. Many authentic restaurants and very reasonably priced. Only downside is the drive from Baku is 3-4 hours. But worth it.

Let’s highlight the good parts of this property first. The food here is excellent and has real value for the money. The breakfast spread is good and the sitting capacity is huge. The outdoor sitting is pretty good and the live music is not very loud. The male singer was actually a very good singer. The desserts are especially out of this world. San Sebastián in the dessert menu is highly recommended. Kebabs are good too. Excellent salads. We tried local red wine which was also very good. The waiters need a little bit of training. We need to chase them all the time. The spa is also very good and reasonably priced. The perfumery at the entrance makes the atmosphere pleasant all the time. The bad part is the design of the rooms. The door does not lock only if you pull it shut! You need to raise the handle to lock it. We realised this after a day. Once the key card is accepted you need to really press hard to open the door. The wash basin is so shallow that if you don’t run the tap at a proper speed water falls on the floor. They have installed a jet spray for the toilet seat and don’t even touch it or you will be an embarrassing situation! The shower has no indicators and you need to fiddle a lot to find out what’s what. Shower stops only in one position if you get it right or it will keep leaking. The balcony to our room was very small and essentially not very useful. The view of the mountains is very good. There is an air conditioning control but whatever you do it sets it’s own temperature!
