Supreme luxury in the most beautiful natural environment. Our stay was sublime from the welcome drink to the last farewell at the nursery purchasing some fynbos plants. Jono was an extremely informative and friendly guide who was willing to answer all my questions with a smile. Every meal was a cullinary experience inspired by the surrounding fynbos... a fine dining delight. The whole experience was magical and the Fynbos safaris a big highlight for me.

Wow, we still can’t quite believe we have been lucky enough to visit such a beautiful and captivating place. From the moment we walked into reception to the second we left we were spellbound by the views and location of the property. On top of this the staff were incredible, Jono our guide made our stay. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about his job we came away with a good understanding of the fynbos and the Grootbos foundations goals. We stayed in Forrest lodge, our room was perfect, a refreshing pool for the day and a wood burning fire perfect for a glass of wine in the evening. Everything was catered for and really well decorated. The service, food and wine is impeccable, Piwe our host us surprised us with a private birthday dinner for my husband in the wine cellar. what a treat! Her warm and friendly service topped off our stay. Everything about Grootbos amazed us, we certainly would love to book again and for more than 2 nights so we could enjoy more of the activities that are on offer.

We have visited Grootbos a number of times (5!) and have fallen in love with everything the place has to offer every single time. This includes the spectacular location, the beautifully appointed rooms, the service (we still fondly remember Fortunate amongst many others!), the spa, the beach and the absolutely delicious food. Can’t wait to go back!

We stayed for 6 nights at Grootbos, and had the most wonderfully active but chilled time. Special thanks to Michelle and the team at the on-site stables for our daily rides on their gorgeous horses. The horse-care was impeccable as was attention to healthy and safety of the riders. Michelle was amazing at matching horses and ride-plan to the rider ability, and as experienced riders we were as delighted as some of the less experienced/beginners that the team caters for. Our guide was really fun and knowledgable which really added to our enjoyment and learning about the local history, flora and fauna! The food was also a highlight, and the service team were incredibly thoughtful.

This beautiful private reserve marries so many exquisite delights. The art gallery with its treasure trove of exquisite plant paintings subtlety echoes the raw artistry of the fynbos and the forests that surround the hotel. The environmentally gentle buildings of the hotel blend into the wild world. The sun filigrees the forest floor with light and that light is replaced by the warm path lights at night. It’s a kaleidoscope. The flowers, the horses, the delicious food, the care for a guests needs, the melted metal of the flat grey sea as the sun sets. Beauty everywhere. The kindness of Juanita, the grace of the owner Michael and the sheer brilliance of all of the staff whether their responsibility be big or small makes this a singular experience. To see their commitment to environmentally sound management, conservation, education and social equity makes this experiencing this place unique. Grootbos is an example to the world of what inclusive multi-threaded management for good can achieve. I was delighted to be a guest, I felt like a million bucks; but, most of all, I felt honoured to be a part of realizing their dream of a better world. A world full of vibrant animals and beautiful plants and happy humans.

A perfect getaway A highly anticipated two nights away from the city… Grootbos has exceeded every expectation. Hospitality, food and activities are unrivaled. Forest walks, horse riding, art gallery, 4x4 nature drives….We have been made to feel so welcome and every detail has been taken care of. The warmth of a fire was waiting in the lounge of our luxury suite when we returned after our 5 course evening meal. But the best of all has been the elevated experience… the way we have been made to feel. Special mention to Michael (the owner), Cohen (our guide), Celeste & Phozisa (our waitresses) and Joanita (the frog lady :-) ) Don’t think twice - just book your stay.

We just came back from a three week vacation to South Africa and Botswana, and we all agreed that Grootbos was the highlight, and our favorite place we stayed during our trip. The grounds were breathtaking and immaculate. We were immediately greeted by Kyle, our dedicated ranger and host, and such a friendly staff. We were all impressed by the beautiful common areas, as well as our villas. The decor was beyond stunning, especially all of the wallpaper. I couldn't stop taking photos. Joamita was so accommodating and lovely, as were all of the staff in the dining areas and spa. We loved our treatments, and I was obsessed with the gift shop. I don't know where to begin with the food, but it was like dining at a Michelin star restaurant for three meals a day. The Chef was amazing and it was the best food I have had in South Africa, and some of the most memorable meals of my life. One of the staff members heard my husband talk about his mother and love for gardening. They gifted us a print from their gorgeous art gallery. That was just one of many personalized experiences. Michael showed us around his property and his exclusive wine collection. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. Kyle was so knowledgeable and engaging with our kids. We visited the farm, caves, went horseback riding, fat biking, and went on a floral safari. All of the activities were so fun and the kids loved every moment. Kudos to Kyle for being an excellent ranger. The kids favorite part of the kids club, where William and the staff took such great care of them. He even let them watch Bollywood films and they had special dinners while we could enjoy some adult time! He was so sweet and patient, we really appreciated him and the rest of the staff, that made my son feel special on his birthday with a gorgeous cake and serenading him. Everything was so personalized and bespoke, we truly felt like we were the only people there. I can't even begin to capture how this was the most memorable experience in a lifetime of travels. I booked at Grootbos Forest Lodge for three nights for my husband’s birthday treat. I had been for a work meeting for one bight many years ago and remembered having the best time but more work oriented. This time it was a little holiday and celebration. Staff From the time arrived to when we left, the staff were fabulous. Attentive, friendly, discreet. Outstanding we Rejoice, Dudu, Maria and Rebecca. But really everybody was unbelievably professional and impeccable. Activities All our activities were planned and guides by Jo, a very intelligent, entertaining and knowledgeable guide who was passionate about the reserve, its conservation, the Cape Floral Kingdom, Grootbos community outreach and more besides. She was one of the best guides I’ve had anywhere in the world. The forest walk, cave hike, boat river trip, everything was fabulous. Food We could not believe the consistent quality and delicious food. It is worth going just for the food. They baked hubby a delicious cake too. The price includes all activities and all meals and they are very gracious and generous. We hope to return.

Stayed here as our first stop in SA. The main lodge is fantastic, very comfortable & great views down towards the coast/good sunsets. Food & drink are all very good. Lots of walks round the estate & free activities like horse riding & keep tours of the fynbos. Where it fell down was attention to detail in the rooms, which seem not to have been given a lot of thought: stuff missing (rubbish bins & places for wet/dirty clothes after a walk), not working (plug sockets & heating - we were cold), & a lack of lighting down very dark steps (so dangerous…). To be fair to the owner Michael, he was more than receptive (& annoyed) that things weren’t up to standard so in future I’d hope it’s all put right. Could be a special place this…..if it is
