This was expensive for what it is. I'm not sure what it is trying to be - crossed between a hotel and a motel, but not really either. Check in was painfully slow, just one lady on reception and they have a complicated system with their door codes where they use you're phone number but the lady has to do that then show you how it works, the lady ahead of me couldn't get hers to work so the receptionist had to them leave everyone in reception to go and let her in. The room was clean and tidy, I'd say it was a motel room at a hotel price. Not really in the best location for being near things, but that's not their fault. A pretty neutral experience really.
The rooms on the back overlooking the lake are nice because there are a lot of waterfowl to observe. The pool is small but warm enough for a swim. The hotel breakfast was extensive. The room is large and bathroom nice. I hate the newer Marriott mattresses as they are very soft and unsupportive for my spine and I have trouble sleeping well on them. There is a super-annoying blinking light on some device on the ceiling over the bed, which seems to have a motion detector as it blinks faster when you move around or get up in the dark. It may be attached to the a/c which I always turn off at night. There's also a bright-ish light on the remote control unit for the automatic blinds. Bring a sleep mask or throw a black t-shirt over your eyes to sleep here if you're sensitive to lights. The staff was very good.
Alaina at the front desk was extremely helpful when we checked in and through out our stay. She went above and beyond in meeting our needs. Our room was clean and comfortable. I requested a roll in shower when I called to make this reservation with Joyce. We received an accessible room with a tub and a bench, not a roll in shower. Alaina did her best to make me comfortable in this situation. Joyce, please reserve a roll in shower when requested.
We stayed here because the location was a midpoint of the distance we needed to travel and we like Best Westerns. This was our first stay at this BW. Genia at the front desk was excellent. We had some trouble with the A/C and she handled that superbly. The breakfast here was a notch above most Best Western Pluses. Excellent coffee. Most choices. Comfortable seating in a nice room. There are two recommended (by Genia) restaurants within easy walking distance. We went to King Wah - mostly Cantonese Chinese food, very well prepared, and very generous portions. You can take your leftovers or they will provide them to homeless folks nearby. Since we were on the road without a cooler I appreciated that even more than otherwise.
Our choice of places to stay was based on pet-friendly and decent accommodations, and Shilo Inn was that. Convenient to the highway and near a grocery store, which were two other of our considerations. The room was reasonably priced and quite large, with a king sized bed and a sitting area. When the people in the room above us arrived around midnight, it got noisy. Very noisy. The sound insulation didn’t seem adequate. Should you go there, be prepared to bring a plug in with USB outlets to charge your devices. Our stay was just one night and very pleasant other than the caveats above.
