オベルジュ・デ・ラ・リヴィエール・サガネイ(Auberge de la Riviere Saguenay)

I do not normally submit reviews of hotels, but in this case, one is required. If you are looking for the perfect Saguenay experience, look no further than the Auberge de la Riviere in La Baie, Quebec. Situated directly on the river, away from the noise of Route 170, I was overwhelmed by the hospitality of the owners, the food, the views, the quiet. We visited after the end of the tourist season. The Auberge itself is several miles beyond the town of La , Baie, in a lovely wooded area literally right on the bank of the fjord. As soon as we entered, there was a sense of both tranquility and beauty. The reception area opens onto a wide-windowed dining area looking directly onto the fjord. We ate there, the food was good, individually prepared, and the setting incomparable. Our room was bright, clean, and comfortable, with a view to the woods and fjord and a balcony (great for warmer weather). Service was personal and attentive. We couldn't have asked for a better sojourn.

There was no on there to meet us and I had trouble contacting him. On your confirmation email whrn I tried to message him, it said there was a problem with the site. Then I tried calling directly and got a voicemail. Other guests arrived and they had a different phone number for them and I finally reached him (Alex). He said he would be there in an hour so we had to wait. Oh, and no key for our door, hair dryer didn’t work, coffee pod and no cream nor sugar. Not a great experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

4 rooms booked, found without towels, or maximum 2 for two host, dust everywhere, electrical cable putted together at risk, residual of previous customers, the sheets of previous customers. In addition, in one room, a wc set unable to discard with urine water flowing on the floor. Bad smell of sewage.

Beautiful view and they gave us a complementary upgrade.

This was a lovely place with a magnificent view of the fjord. The staff were super nice and accommodating. The breakfast at the Auberge was delicious too! We will definitely stay there again if we travel to that area.

Ahhhh.... a room with a spectacular view!! They serve breakfast and dinner, which I would recommend as the dining options are not great in Saguenay...and the food at Auberge de la Riviere Saguenay is particularly tasty! Hint: Get the crepes for breakfast. Host Alex was phenomenal..gave us great tips on the area (what to do and see and is bilingual for those of you who are not). Room was comfy, easy access by steps to beach at base of cliff. Get a room with a balcony, you can spend hours in relaxed mode watching the river and tides. Would love to see this place again in a winter season!

with a relaxed a**osphere and stunning views. Terrific breakfasts and warm, friendly staff. Great, comfortable bed and spacious room, although some minor routine maintenance was needed (floor drain cover, toilet handle). Not fancy, but clean and welcoming. The room we had is probably comfortable most of the year, but on warm sunny summer days, in spite of two pedestal fans and opening windows as far as possible the room stayed at 26-27C, which caused some discomfort and sleeping challenges. The room was maybe Fleur or Montagnes, it was at west end of the dernier étage. Another nice feature are some common lounges for relaxing or having an indoor pique-nique. Owner/managers also solicit guest feedback for property improvement suggestions. Host/manager Alex has great enthusiasm for the region, is fluently bi-lingual and offered some excellent suggestions for activities.

Mon passage à l'Auberge de la Rivière Saguenay fin décembre 2023 a été un véritable cauchemar. Nous sommes restés coincés là-bas pendant PLUS DE 20 heures, de 17h le 29 décembre à environ 13h30 le jour suivant, sans aucun avertissement sur la côte verglacée. On a glissé avec la voiture jusqu'en bas, et personne ne nous a aidés. Pendant tout ce temps, on n'avait rien à manger ou boire parce que l'auberge était très loin de tout. La nourriture ne pouvait pas être livrée, on ne pouvait pas se rendre à pied et le soit dit restaurant de l’auberge semblait non fonctionnel. Le personnel de l'auberge était inutile. On a dû les harceler pour qu'ils appellent un deneigeur. Ils ont refusé de le faire jusqu'au lendemain matin et le lendemain personne n’avait appelé, on a du appeler à plusieurs reprises le réceptionniste (qui n’était même pas là toute la journée) et attendre plusieurs heures pour que finalement en après-midi le deneigeur arrive. On a même appelé le CAA entretemps, mais ils n'ont pas pu nous aider à cause de la pente trop raide et du manque de sel. De plus, ils nous ont intentionnellement donné une chambre différente de celle que nous avions réservée, et on a dû nous insister pour qu'ils nous donnent la vraie chambre qui ne semblait même pas prête pour les visiteurs, avec des serviettes sales et mouillées dans la salle de bain, un réfrigérateur défectueux et la présence d'insectes vivants et morts. Et ce n’est pas tout, il y avait une odeur d'égouts insupportable partout dans l'auberge tout le long du séjour. Et l’eau aussi sentait terrible alors on n’a pas pu boire ou se laver. Le réceptionniste ne semblait pas vouloir nous aider, il est resté poli et calme, mais son langage corporel montrait son agacement et exaspération. Il nous a laissés seuls dans l'auberge le soir du 29 et toute la journée du 30, avec à peine d’assistance ou réponse au téléphone. On a essayé de demander un remboursement partiel, mais le personnel n'e voulait pas nous aider ou proposer des solutions. Ils nous ont juste donné une adresse e-mail pour les contacter, mais ils n'ont jamais répondu. De ce qu’on a entendu, il semblerait qu'il y ait eu un changement de propriétaires, et l'auberge est maintenant très loin de ce qu'elle était auparavant. Les photos sur le site sont loin de la réalité, ça c'est sûr. En bref, évitez cette auberge à tout prix. C'était une expérience désastreuse et une perte d'argent totale.
