service everywhere is impeccable. we keep going back for the food. maps, boat taxis, snorkeling, tour guides of lamu—everything is provided with clarity about times, prices, etc. we love the romantically high beds! i just wish there was a/c in the rooms for the hotter days.

This place is sublime. Not shiny or glitzy, just laid back, gentle chic. The situation (protected World Heritage site) in Shella Town on Lamp Island is outstanding. Transfer by boat from the airport. The food is outstanding and the elegant, understated service is perfect and personal. I almost didn't want to review this as it's too nice and I want to keep it for myself.

We were simply blown away by the Peponi, it's a very special place indeed. The staff were so friendly, they genuinely wanted you to have a great time and couldn't have been kinder. The food is incredible, tasty, fresh and there's a huge variety. We never eat all our meals in the hotel but there was no way we wanted to miss an opportunity to eat there and so ate all 3 meals there for 6 days. The location is truly unique, it was a real joy to sit having a sun downer watching the boats with locals and guests coming and going. The people watching is lovely be it the fisherman coming to sell the line fish he's just caught to the chef or the well dressed locals arriving for a special Friday night meal. Carol and Kailor gave us a fantastic plan for our time at the Peponi and it was spot on, nothing was too much trouble be it making sure you got the breeziest table at breakfast or tried a particularly tasty drink, the whole thing was personalised from start to finish. We left promising we will return and we definitely will! Thank you all.

Brilliant place. Paradise. Excellent people and hospitality and fantastic food. The spot is magical and Lamu is the best. Love the bar and the food is great. Recommend all of the curries. Third generation brilliant family who oversee this special place. Thank you… Highly recommended!

Don’t hesitate to book this hotel for a Lamu stay. The location is excellent with direct access to the incredible Sheila beach with breathtaking sunsets. The staff (everyone feels more like hosts welcoming you to their home) is incredible - accommodating, professional and knowledgeable. The food was unbelievable - everything was fresh and delicious with some of the fastest service I’ve ever experienced at the hotel. The hotel also respects the local culture and supports the preservation the unique history of Lamu. Rooms are spacious with good showers. Absolutely nothing negative to say.

Everything was perfect. From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, they couldn't have been more welcoming, hospitable and helpful. Can't think of a way to improve this hotel. Food is second to none, and so reasonably priced. Rooms are stunning. Attention to detail 5*

The service and food were lovely but there is no air conditioning on the premises (just ceiling fans) and inadequate cross ventilation in the rooms so the extreme heat was intolerable. Lots of steps to get to the rooms, which would be challenging for anyone with mobility issues. Very thoughtful and warm service throughout our stay.

Just had the most relaxing and enjoyable time at Peponi, aptly named (means paradise!). A family owned and run hotel, boutique would put it into a niche and honestly Peponi is UNIQUE. Heavenly situation, comfortable and well appointed rooms and DELICIOUS food. Every single meal was a delight and delicious, every whim catered for. The hotel is very stylishly spread out, having grown organically as demand grew, the owners are passionate about the history of the area and the livelihoods of the local fishermen. From the moment of disembarking the plane at the 'airport' where you are met and transported by boat, to the welcome drink life is 'simply the best' at Peponi. Very sad to leave, on a speed boat across the blue waters, what a dreamy time. Cannot wait to come back.
