The hotel consists of two period town houses which have been converted into a bar, restaurant and hotel. Lots of historical features remain and there are signs dotted around to tell you about them. There are also many pictures and photographs of Lancaster. The only real down-side is that the hotel is on 3 floors with no lift. My room was a good size, comfy bed, proper wardrobe with proper hangers and a well-fitted modern bathroom. (Well, shower-room. Water temperature in the shower varied a bit, presumably due to fluctuations in demand for hot water.) Dinner in the restaurant was good, service was quick and attentive (there is a button on each table to summon staff) and the food was tasty and hot. Breakfast was similarly good. Tea, coffee and juice ready to serve yourself and a good selection of cooked food to order. You can order the night before if you are on a tight time-table but I didn't test this. Breakfast is included in the room rate if you book directly. Hotel is 10 minutes walk from the train station, and just on the edge of the shopping area. An excellent choice for a night or two, though I probably wouldn't pick it for a week's holiday.
