We were upgraded to a premium suite, which offered more than enough space for 2 people. The rooms are modern, yet cosy. A large bathroom with a bathtub, a separate dressing room, 2 TVs, a large couch and a balcony with a view to the garden. We do enjoy a coffee in the morning, but there was no coffee machine, not even an electric kettle. When asked, we were told that only the penthouse suite has got one. They then offered we could get one as well and a few capsules for 25,- EUR. Frankly, I would expect this to be complimentary in a hotel of this category. We had booked half board and the dinner (5 courses) was delicious and more than sufficient. The breakfast buffet had a varied offer from “omelette-to-order” to various fresh juices, salmon, etc. although the quality of the food was not consistently satisfactory. Bread rolls were not crispy and the bread, waffles and pancakes were dry. Selection of cheese and cold meat limited. The waiters were super attentive and friendly though. The spa area also deserves a positive mention, it is very spacious and has all the treatments you could wish for. The indoor pool is heated but to cool off you can walk to the sister hotel across the street. They offer a natural pool which is free to use for the guests of the Elisabeth Hotel as well. However, there is some construction work happening now, so it’s a bit noisy. The biggest drawback for us was the lack of air conditioning in the house. The room heats up so much in summer that you can hardly stay there, despite airing in the morning and closing windows and blinds during the day. We were immediately provided with a fan, but it is loud and only blows in one direction. In the evenings the dining rooms were simply too warm. You could hardly enjoy the (very good) food and had to shower again later. We felt sorry for the waiters. When asked about this on departure, the receptionist just grumbled annoyed: “We have no air conditioning” and then looked down without further comment/apology. Since there was only a very limited number of seatings outside, the hotel decided that all had to eat in the restaurant. Except for the afternoon snacks, which could be taken outside. You are allocated a fixed table for your entire stay. This is incomprehensible since this is an adults-only hotel and as an adult, I don’t want to be patronised. On the positive side, we met a nice couple next to our table and enjoyed good dinner conversations while we were there. All in all, we missed the warm hospitality that you would expect of a hotel, especially of this category, but the rooms, food and other features make up for this. Still room for improvement though to make it a perfect stay.
