My family and I went here today for a Mother’s Day meal treat. When we arrived, yes it was busy but to be directed to our table with hand signals was a poor start not to mention finding people sitting at our clearly labelled reserved table having a coffee! Table wasn’t wiped down between them and us so that was black mark number 2 (doesn’t get better from here). Waited a solid 15 minutes before we approached the bar staff to give a drinks order and was told to take a seat “we’ll get there soon”. A waitress finally arrived, looked at us and shrugged and said “sorry” before taking our order. When the food arrived nearly an HOUR later, there were only 3 meals instead of 4 and I had to go in search of cutlery, napkins and condiments. The fourth meal arrived a solid 8 minutes later. I really wanted the food to redeem what was a lacklustre experience so far but it didn’t. The fish was heavily battered and very oily and the “chicken, Brie, almond filo parcel” was extremely light on chicken and the almonds weren’t there at all. Plus one of our meals had a hair in it 🤢 During the whole time we had been there, we were not approached once regarding further drinks and not asked if our meals were ok, HOWEVER the table right next to us were asked TWICE! We decided not to grow any older waiting for dessert and when paying, we were presented with an extraordinarily large bill. Half of it was items we certainly hadn’t ordered. No apology, just “that’s why we like you to check it”. Throw me an apron and a notepad sweetie and I’ll do the rest of your job for you while I’m at it. Here’s some advice for free - when you are short staffed, restrict your bookings and don’t take walk ins. Look after your bookings, they’ll usually come back. But we won’t be.
Good location but not right on the beach - 10 minutes walk away and all amenities are also a fair distance away so my elderly inlaws had to be driven everywhere, with nothing within their walking distance. Rooms are dated but reasonably well equipped. Parking spaces are small, designed for small cars, not the huge SUVs and trucks that we all wallow around in now. Host David and his team are great, and go out of their way to help. High-speed WiFi, hundreds of Sky channels, outdoor table and a BBQ area made for a great stay. Warm and friendly holiday accommodation - recommended.
I don't normally write reviews but I saw the lead review for the Deluxe Room and had to respond. Unfortunately, the property certainly does not live up to that review. We stayed here last week for two nights. If we hadn't organised a full day trip we would've moved. The kitchenette is dated and the units are scraped and bashed. The bathroom is awful. Nothing has been done since the 70s I expect. The cold bath tap doesn't work. The jets and spa set up haven't been used in years and are broken. There's a piece of paper Sellotaped to the tiles reading 'spa temporarily out of use'. The shower curtain was disgusting. Surely, that could be replaced in minutes? Many of the single glazed units don't open. It was boiling when we returned from our trip. There are only electric heaters if the weather is cold. Clean sheets and towels. For reference to UK customers this is 2* at best and I'm being generous. Way past it's time for a total refurbishment.
De ontvangst was eenvoudig maar persoonlijk en prettig. De kamers beetje gehorig. Ligt in buitengebied dat goed toegankelijk is. Do not forget to buy anti repellent against sand flies. They sell that also at the reception.
Great location, Staff were lovely, place was dated but tidy. Dinner Restaurant is still closed due to covid. The main reason for the down review is I had booked with a voucher for the first night that included breakfast. I asked for 2 more nights and expected breakfast. When I checked in, I validated it was but when we checked out was told not the case so we paid $69 (2 pax) per day for an avg breakfast that had we known we would have gone elsewhere and paid less. Mgr on duty would not budge or even apologise. Disappointed as I would have rated much higher
I booked a private room, but ended up sleeping in my car because of bed bugs in my room. The evening guy wasn't helpful at all and seemed to think I could still sleep there, I did not. The day after I talked to Fran in the reception, she was very kind, helpful and service minded. She informed me that they were doing everything in their power to treat the bugs. She also refunded me for my entire stay, and paid for a new hostel. I was supposed to stay here for two nights. Fran also emailed me later to check in and to ask how I was doing. Hostel gets a 3/5 only thanks to Fran, she was a 5/5 in service!

An excellent place to stay in Nelson, easy walking distance to the centre of town and several great cafes and restaurants. Extremely comfortable unit, very clean and modern with everything we needed. Very comfortable bed! We received a very warm welcome from the hosts who were extremely helpful during our stay. We also appreciated being able to charge our EV car there. Thoroughly recommend and we’ll return when next In Nelson!
Amazing place to stay. Very close to restaurants, very clean, quiet and the owners are great people. Its a short drive to town. It was a memorable stay. Amazing place to stay. GGreenInsightsAs the name suggests you are right on the water when you stay here. Our room was sparklingly clean and fresh when we arrived. Features are a comfy king size bed and really big bathroom with detachable shower head in the shower. Eco friendly push button soaps as well as regular soap and shampoo provided Tea and coffee are quality and two packs of welcome biscuits are in the kitchen area The fridge is pretty small but there is a good sized toaster and kettle. A free continental breakfast is offered in the upstairs breakfast room Not all the guest rooms have views of the harbour Ours was the carpark Also the air came in through the window or sliding door in the glass wall of our room that ran along the first floor balcony. Block out curtains also blocked out the fresh air and with the curtains open there was not much privacy when others went by on the balcony.. alternatively we could have just used the ac unit and closed the curtains The location was just a few minutes drive to the centre of Nelson Staff are very friendly and helpful There is a washer and dryer are fresh water to top up and encourage reusing water bottles Would stay again but opt for a harbour view room
We sandwiched a trip to the Abel Tasman National Park with a night either end at YHA Nelson. Our ensuite room was clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced and we appreciated being able to store unneeded luggage while we were away. Lots of good eateries within walking distance but if you want to self-cater there is a large and well equipped shared kitchen. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Take up their offer to book your taxi to the airport - the subsequent discount on the fare was a nice little end to our holiday!
