Hotel Maison de Ville

Besides a few minor issues with the management and room, It was in an excellent location! To the right Two feet to Bourbon Street and to the left a few blocks to Canal Street. I loved every minute of it! I’d book it again in a New York minute!

We spent a most memorable week at Sonder's Maison de Ville, in The Heart of the French Quarter. Our room was lovely, and faced a courtyard filled with greenery as well as tables to enjoy an Aperitif, and the tranquility, being only 50 feet from Bourbon Street. The location could not have been more ideal. There were restaurants and boutiques literally minutes from anywhere you turned, in addition to Live Music and Entertainment galore. The few times we contacted Customer Service, our calls were answered promptly, courteously, and with u**ost efficiency. The representatives were knowledgeable in all respects, and gave us the feeling of having a Concierge present for whatever questions or needs we had. Don't trust the pictures on the website, this hotel is a nigh**are. The building is dilapidated and not maintained. There is no one on the site, you have to call a phone number who transfer you to Asia in case of problems. The code provided to enter the main building was wrong and it takes a long time phone calls to have this issue resolved with people who speaks broken english. The noise from the adjacent streets is very loud all night long until 3 AM and you can't sleep. The door's lock bolt isn't secure and almost falling apart, the toilet paper holder is completely rusted, the drawers handles are broken or missing, they are hair in the shower from the previous guests, they are hair and dirt between the bed's headboard and the mattress, you can't use the cabinet because the door is closed and the key is missing. The pictures speak for themselves ! Honestly, I do not recommend this place, you will be very disappointed

Location was wonderful and the hotel itself was beautiful. But our bathroom sink didn’t drain, the shower handle broke off, and the tub would fill every time you tried to shower. Definitely in need of better maintenance. Even with the air conditioning, we woke up sweating. Sometimes the front door code wouldn’t work even though we entered it correctly.

I CANNOT recommend Sonder Maison De Ville located at 727 Toulouse St., New Orleans, based on our stay of February 27 through March 3, 2023. This very beautiful property has tremendous potential but suffers greatly from lack of local management and neglect. And based on the way Sonder manages this property, I will not book any other Sonder property, anywhere, for future travels. If that’s all you need to know, there you have it. If you want to know why, keep reading. Our family came to New Orleans for a special family gathering and planned to stay all together in the same place. We did stay in Rooms 3, 4, and 12 but, literally minutes before arrival, one family member was informed electronically that she was to be moved to another property several blocks away. It was frustrating and very inconvenient to be broken up this way, and she felt left out. We were never told why Sonder did this. Sonder is pretty silent when it comes to information and explanations. Sonder advertisement of the property repeatedly skirts the truth. Whether this is the result of purposeful exaggeration or because no one is onsite to actually know the truth remains to be determined. For example, one of the things we really like about the property is the historical nature of the place. It is a beautiful old French Quarter home, residence of New Orleans apothecary Antoine Peychaud, founder of Peychaud’s bitters. Oddly, several materials advertise it as a residence of Tennessee Williams though this is incorrect, as historical documents show Tennessee Williams rented a residence across the street at 722 Toulouse. As for skirting the truth regarding onsite amenities, Sonder Maison de Ville webpage clearly states that they provide “contactless convenient check-ins, professionally cleaned rooms, … shower amenities, comfortable bedding, fresh towels, artisan coffee, and 24/7 support.” Let’s take the “truth” of these promised amenities one by one. 1. The Sonder app is well designed and easy to use. A building entry code is sent via email and the app shortly before your arrival. Definitely “contactless”. But convenient? The keypad is VERY worn out. We had three rooms, there were six of us, and ALL of us had constant trouble getting into the building. Sometimes we had to enter the code again and again until it finally worked. Sometimes we just gave up and cut through the bar (open 4 pm to 10 pm). Sometimes we waited for someone to come out and let us in. Not convenient at all. So “contactless convenient” is 1/2 true. 2. Regarding the advertisement of professionally cleaned rooms, there is absolutely no room/maid service whatsoever during your stay. The room is “cleaned” prior to your arrival and after you leave, but “professionally”? Hard to say. My photos are of my bathroom in Room 3. The floor suffers from “middle of the floor” mopping meaning, the center is cleaned but no mop or any other cleaning device has touched those corners in a long, long time. Ro

Loved the location! Awoke (late!) to the sounds of the Jaz trio next door! Room was perfect for us. Only one issue...the front door keypad was so so difficult, and could have had more towels available, but, will definitely return and book the same room! Thanks!

Great locations, but the property is not being kept well. Sonder isn't maintaining it well. it needs a good going over to get back to as good as it could be. The location and history alone are reason enough to spend a little to turn this property around.

Amazing balcony patio with live jazz music every day from the Court of Two Sisters brunch connected to the courtyard. Great bed and shower. Perfect location right between Bourbon and Royal. This is the best time we've had in New Orleans and we've visited alot. Great place to stay!

Perfect location for all things French Quarter or Frenchman Street! Pro Tip: request a room in the courtyard away from the noise of Bourbon Street revellers. This is a very old building. Expect it to have quirks and well as charms. There is no in-room fridge, as in most modern hotels. Doors may not be square, there may be need of minor repairs but I would absolutely stay here again. Very lovely boutique hotel.
