I could not speak more highly of this wonderful hotel. We have just returned from spending 9 fantastic nights here, staying in the Victory room/suite. Thank you to all who work here for making our stay so special. Our first impressions were incredibly positive. We were greeted with ice cold glasses of fruit punch on arrival. The building itself is impressive with a beautiful courtyard in the centre and the view out over the harbour is magnificent. We were so impressed with the size of our room (or should I say rooms)! A huge living room with comfortable sofa, widescreen tv and dining table plus lots of storage space, a kitchenette with sink, fridge and basic kitchen equipment (a kettle for tea and a coffee maker with some basic supplies eg teabags was provided), a bathroom with a very good shower and then a large bedroom upstairs in the attic space. The bedroom had an AC unit and a ceiling fan so was always beautifully cool. The bed was kingsize and extremely comfortable. The rooms were beautifully clean and fresh towels arrived every day without fail. We were also lucky enough to have a brilliant view out across the harbour. There were so many details that we loved about staying at Copper and Lumber - the breakfasts were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful view from the outdoor dining area which looks directly onto the harbour. The little birds that visit the breakfast tables were absolutely charming. We had the continental breakfast (tea, coffee, toast, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, freshly baked banana bread… it was fantastic). We also loved the friendly atmosphere and the staff were so lovely. To the waitress who kindly brought us extra banana bread when I told her how much I liked it - thank you! The historical feel to the place was just wonderful - all of the rooms are named after famous ships and naval figures, many with a connection to Nelson (Victory, Boreas, Hardy) and there are fascinating old pictures hanging throughout the hotel. The rooms have a very traditional feel and we felt as though we had stepped back in time. The location of the hotel is also incredibly convenient - lots of restaurants within easy walking distance, and a supermarket just 5 mins up the road. There is a small museum in Nelson’s Dockyard and a wonderful little bakery selling bread and cakes, as well as several gift shops and a couple of cafes. The bar at Copper and Lumber is lovely with old timey decor like a traditional English pub and does great food (I believe they have just reopened for serving evening meals). Some days we got the water taxi over to Galleon beach which is a stunning beach with great snorkelling - the water taxi leaves from a spot just next to the hotel and costs 5USD each way. Pigeon Point beach is also lovely and just a 20 minute walk from Copper and Lumber. We also really enjoyed exploring the coastal footpaths and seeing the ruins at Fort Berkeley. Really friendly staff, nice size accomadation, nice family feel and friendly enviroment. Close to the beach, just a 5 minute walk, there is a steep hill to climb on the way back from the beach which could pose a problem for some people. Nice pool area with sunbeams and seating. Its not close to any shops or a small store for supplies, so you will need a car. Everything in the accomadation worked well except for the oven which would not come on, I went shopping with the intention of using the oven to do some cooking, but ended up having to give the shopping away to a friend on the island after I realised the oven did not work. Stove worked fine, nice size fridge and nice microwave that was in good working condition. The only other issue was the roof in my room leaked when it rained heavy (this happened on 3 occasions) the first occasion it leaked all over my luggage, I was out at the time and came back that night to find my luggage soaked, I was so lucky that my electrical goods like my laptop was not locked in that case (also to safe is too small to accommodate a laptop and you have to pay to use the room safe). I did report the leak to the security worker that night, as there was also a power cut that night and the wifi went off and did not come on until midday the following day, however the security guy said he would report it for me, but clearly he didn't report it as no one followed up with me. On the other 2 occasions I moved everything from where the leak was and placed the bathroom mat under the leak. I would recommend staying here but there needs to be a few minor repairs to make it perfect. Only cost $10US an hour for late check out if you have a flight after the checkout time of 12 noon which is useful.

Just relax and enjoy, switch your phone off and enjoy your surroundings. The hotel is fabulous, all the staff take great care in making your stay the best. The food is first class, the owners are hands on and make sure everything that leaves the kitchen is perfect. The pool is huge and wonderful to swim and has a shallow area for those wishing to chat n relax. We are here celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary which Emma the manager has made extra special, having a fabulous time.

Hodges Bay is absolutely beautiful! The resort is very unique and well designed. Every room feels unique and special! We stayed ocean front and garden view! Both were fantastic! The staff makes you feel like family. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners Jeff and Sarah and they are the kindest warmest people you could meet. The trip over to the prickly pear was an absolute highlight! We spent most days there. Captain Sean was great! Chef Wes, Veveen, and Ashanti were super kind and attentive! The main bar by the pool was our evening destination! Marvelous, Delvin, Anastasia and Kayenne were friendly and fun! I’ve told numerous people about our trip already! Sorry if missed anyone! Can’t wait to return!!!
