ザ・サンズ・ホテル(The Sands Hotel Hokianga)

Was a great location, right on the waterfront with views out to the Heads. The lighting around the complex was terrible - including nothing being lit up at the roadside/driveway, so if you were trying to find it in the dark, it would be difficult. Prices in the restaurant were steep for what was on offer. Overall the complex was just looking a little tired and dated - but it met our basic needs.

Kia ora Tino ataahua Motel, the host Juanita, was awesome on arrival, very hospitable, her staff very helpful and caring, waking up to the hokianga moana outside my room, was just beyond happiness. I will be staying here again alot, nga mihinui e te haukainga o sands motel, mauri ora

This is an amazing place to stay. Everyone is so friendly on staff, and the rooms and beach view are fantastic. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and the meals were beautiful. We were very sad to only be staying one night: had it been earlier in our trip we would have changed our plans to stay. Lying in bed you can see the harbour very close up and hear the lapping of the sea on the shore. Also we did a walk up near the heads and saw Orca in the harbour. A lot of natural beauty in this area and not far down the road in the Kauri forest so a good base to do that from.

Lovely stay, two nights over the weekend. Nice comfy room, best shower had for a while. Hot as water and plenty of pressure. Fantastic meal in the restaurant, we all enjoyed it. Big ups to the chef. Very friendly, helpful staff members. They all looked after us top notch. The view from our room was looking straight out at the entrance to the Hokianga Harbour. We could walk right out to the beachfront. Great ambiance throughout this establishment

It's a beautiful location, which our whānau have had a long association with. Glad to see the original proprietors are managing the property again and bringing back the charm, quality service and friendliness we always associated with this place. Looking forward to future visits.

We booked a 2bedroom unit the view was magical amazing to wake up too the restaurant food was delicious 5 star resort

We had a wonderful stay here - only small issue is that the accommodation was a bit dated - however everything else, including the restaurant and the service from the crew, was excellent.

Property is quite tired but clean and tidy in all areas. We did enjoy our stay a great location. Restaurant Ok but not amaizing. In room needs a make over fridge rusty light fitting missing shade in bathroom doesnt look good. Front doors to rooms slam shut quite annoying !!

We know this place has been taken under new management and wow, it was such an amazing stay! We turned up and were greeted with just a warm front of house, she was so kind as to show us the Villa and the Two Bedroom Apar**ent as we wanted to upgrade to a Villa. The Villa was so beautiful, it comes with your own private spa. The Villa sleep 2 people normally but we requested a roll away bed for our son and it was fine. They were very accomodating. There are no views with the Villa but that was okay for us. The bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on in a hotel and the Villa was so clean and immaculate. We then went to have dinner and the staff in the dining area were just so pleasant to deal with. Very happy and will accomodate you for whatever you need. The Kai was absolutely delicious, we had a Belly Pork, the fish and chips and the lamb. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted just so yum. The fish and chips were the highlight! The facilities were clean in the reception/restaurant as well. Breakfast was a cooked bacon and egg meal, a la carte style so it was hot and fresh and bacon was perfect. Kudos to the chef. Amazing food. We cannot wait to come back soon.
