Myself and my husband stayed here as part of a Wedding party group. the room was lovely, modern, clean, good facilities (apart from the world's tiniest bathroom sink!) Very comfortable and breakfast the next morning was good. Room alone 10/10. However, as a wedding reception venue it was very disappointing. Food was good, however we were given glasses of prosecco as we arrive and told to keep for the toast (which happened a good 2 hours later, so nice and warm prosecco when raising our glasses). They told the Bride that she wasn't guaranteed her room early to get ready in on the day. The function room was well set up, but lacked a very key component - there was no facility to play music, only an old CD player with a handful of CDs on offer. Essentially we listened to a CD by the Beautiful South on loop throughout the entire meal. There wasn't even a function to allow blue tooth or USB connection for us to play the bespoke playlist that had been created for the event. Even worse, when it came to the evening, this meant that the bride and groom couldn't have their first dance. Eventually someone from the party went home and brought back a Bluetooth speaker and we were able to play their song and have a bit of a dance, however.......... that too was scuppered by the female manager of the function room who came over at 9.55pm and told us to turn down the music as the family who were in the room above had complained about the noise. Let's be clear, the music was not offensive (80s pop) and was not too loud, just loud enough to have a dance around to. Presumably DJs must not be allowed either as they'd make way too much noise - haven forbid we have some fun at a wedding! Quite why a family were given the room above the function room or why they were not informed when they booked, is quite beyond me, but expecting a wedding party to 'be quiet' at 9.55pm is quite frankly ridiculous. Needless to say, once we were told to be quiet, we stopped drinking and, as a guest, it put a dampener on the celebrations. Well done Mortimer Arms, you saved yourselves huge amounts of revenue from all those extra bar profits you could have had - great business sense. The Bride and Groom were on a high from the overall day and I wanted to protect them from this nonsense - however the least I can do is ensure that future couples seriously consider booking this venue unless they know full well what they are going to get. So sad, as actually, it had great potential.
