My wife & I had a wonderful staycation last week, from start to end the service both friendly and impeccable. At check-in my Ambassador level was well acknowledged. Our room was clean, comfortable, very quiet, modern, and well appointed. Breakfast at the Hotel's ground floor restaurant, Ivy & Jack, was excellent overall, great service too. However, my wife felt more asian breakfast food would be good, think noodles and cooked asian vegetables with the Fried Rice being vegetarian rather than containing meat. Can well recommend the hotel and it's location.
Need extra blankets available and need to have room Service on weekends as that’s when most guests would be staying. Currently, the only blanket in the room is very thin so not really warm on a winter night.
The good: Nice design. Relatively new. Location is great, and the view from the room was very nice, overlooking the water. The bad: Whilst we appreciated the ”welcome” we received in the room, whereby ALL the blinds were raised automatically when entering the room, this feature could not be turned off, and so when I returned to the room at night after my family had gone to sleep, all the blinds raised, disturbing everyone. I requested this feature be removed, but the only option was to disable the blinds completely. On the subject of blinds, the material used did not provide privacy from the street, so blockout blinds needed to be lowered as well. The controls to the blinds were sketchy... sometimes raising or sometimes lowering regardless of which button was pressed. It was an effort to get them to close! The key to the room did not work on the second day, and I had to stand in line for 20 mins, after which I was issued with a new key, which did not operate the lift, and so I had to return again to get this fixed. We ordered dinner in the room as the restaurant was closed. The quinoa was basically a very small sprinkle of quinoa... hardly a meal, or even a snack. The seafood pasta was served with 4 tiny prawns and 4 small scallops only. No crab or fish, as advertised. It was also extremely small, and drowned in butter. The lamb shank was okay, but nothing to write home about. The room was dusty in places. The paint was bubbling on the ceiling in places. The breakfast buffet was reasonable, however there was a swarm of small flies near the fruit. The coffee was awful, though my daughter raved about the chai latte. For a hotel of this (supposed) standard, and price, the breakfast was sub-par. There was also a guest pacing around whilst using his phone, hardly appropriate, and went unnoticed by the staff. All in all, I couldn't recommend this hotel to anyone for the price, around $800 per night. They also wanted an additional $125 per night for a rollaway, however we took our own blow up mattress and sleeping bag for our daughter instead.
I have stayed at the hotel over the past 15 years and it has gradually become a little run down here and there but the worst change is the service, nobody has a smile or greets you as a guest, your just another inconvenience for them. I stayed in a ”Deluxe” King room last week and the Bathroom was dirty and the Shower over Bath is a disgrace (see photo). I don't think I'll be staying again until some marked improvements have been made.
ゲゲストGreat experience, glad we stayed here! We were on the 28th (top) floor in a Club King room with views looking east over the Cathedral, could see the river, stadiums and as far as the hills. Underground parking. Luxurious couch, bed, bathroom - deep bath, separate rain shower. Service around the hotel was excellent. Very quiet and didn’t feel busy at all. Perfect for relaxation. Spent time at the pool reading and enjoying some sunshine. Loved the modern decor and artwork of the hotel as well as some history around the area. Walking distance to anywhere. Club lounge and Garum (breakfast) had nice food and drinks options - catered for Gluten Free but not amazing - room for improvement there. Lounge atmosphere was quiet, perhaps a little more upbeat music, but only a minor thing. Otherwise, very happy with our choice to stay here for the first time. Good times, didn’t want to leave. ゲゲストStayed here for 3 nights, arriving after long flight from UK. No problem checking in, room in quiet location as requested. Some construction work going on at back of hotel, but nothing that disturbed me in the evening. Room was clean and had everything I needed for a short stay. Corridor and room carpets could do with replacing, but I guess that is a big expense after the last few years. Breakfast was more than adequate, with plenty of choice. The hot buffet was all fresh and frequently replenished. The young man in the restaurant (sorry I don't know your name), was very helpful and polite. Reception were helpful in booking a very early morning airport taxi for me, and on the morning of departure made certain that I safely got into my taxi. As a solo female traveller, it's the little details like that that mean so much. I would definitely return if i was visiting Perth again
ゲゲストShould have read all the nasty reviews about this place. Just look at all the response from the hotel and you can easily see how the hotel management is. like You go judge for yourself. Be very careful about all the fine print... was charged extra AUD$$150 for not appearing before 6pm at the hotel reception desk. Similar experience with other reviewers. I am here on holiday... not here to attend Court!!! I have receipts and email correspondence so stop pretending that it was not Starwest Apartments Alderneyon Hay but some other private owner as per your response to the other reviewers! I attached the fineprint slip that you slide sneakily under my door threatening to lock me out if I dont register at your reception on the 1st day before 6pm. You then proceeded to lock me out on the first day and extorted AUD$150 from us before letting us back into the room. To think that I booked and already paid in full for 5 days...
