Great central location with restaurants, bars, shops & inter island ferry within short walking distance. A good size room that was clean & well set up. Check in was quick & with friendly helpful staff. Car rentals are close by and on site parking is provided. Couldn’t go wrong staying here & great value for money.
Very clean and fresh local motel. Very large rooms, comfortable bed, basic bathroom., with a small kitchenette. Quiet location and ample on site parking. Great easy location to walk into the Main Street for dining and or a drink. Recommend in Picton.
Really friendly greeting at office, took me up see our room. Handy location in the city opposite a big supermarket. Full kitchen Not, fridge a bit too enthusiastic froze our milk. Not noisy, great beds and pillows.only down side was tiny shower head and not great water pressure.
Love the look of the 1930's property. The way it's been tastefuly restored is at the owner's credit. Our room was well set out, all amenities covered. After spending 2 days travelling from Kerikeri to Greymouth, we arrived in Picton late at night due to the ferry being delayed in Wellington and Tracee met us out the front. It's good to find somewhere like this that's pet friendly.
We just loved it here! it was without question the best accomodation we had whilst in NZ. We were offed a complementary glass of wine nibbles on arrival. The room was so tastefully decorated and massive joined by a very generous bathroom with freestanding bathtub & shower. Our host could not do enough to assist us (she is also the chef😋Our bed was turned down, the breakfast was absolutely delicious & generous we just loved it! Shared balcony off our room overlooking the marina & right in the heart of town. We would definitely come again!!! The only thing that was missing was a fridge(which of course would not fit in with the style of the room).
I booked for 1 night and ended up staying 3 night. Top notch accommodation in one of their queen ensuite rooms - comfy bed with beautiful linen, an ever changing view of the harbour from my deck and everything was spotlessly clean. Hosts Barry and Nikki were very knowledgeable about Picton, transport and events; and very friendly too. Clean shared kitchen with huge fridges to store food. Free delicious home-made scones with butter and jam to boot. I liked the cats and a small dog that hung around - it all made Tombstone a very homely stay.
002026131We are travelling throughout New Zealand and have pre-booked accommodation every couple of days. On Thursday 7th March we took the ferry from North Island to South Island and booked into The Gables B&B for 2 nights. Things didn’t get off to a great start when the lady who met us stated we couldn’t park our car on site, only to later retract this and ‘allow’ us to park for one night only. We were shown to our room, a largish room with a double bed covered in 11 pillows and cushions and a single bed also covered in cushions and pillows. Much fuss was made of the offer of a small glass of wine from the Marlborough area. Our bathroom was across the landing, which we were unable to lock. Our room had no water or water glasses, no tea tray, no TV (we understand this is considered a historic B&B) and no bin. However, the whole room and house smelt really strongly of lilies, the smell was overpowering. We were tired so went to bed reasonably early, so were awake at 6.00am the following morning. My husband went to the communal lounge and dining room to get some tea at about 7.00am as we were gasping for a drink and there was nothing in the room! He was promptly told off by the host/proprietor who stated there was no access to this communal facility until 8.00am. He was then accused of waking up other guests. At breakfast the host then accused a Danish couple of breaking a window in a very aggressive manner, however, they had shown us a picture of the window hanging off on one hinge with a gale blowing through. It clearly needed maintenance. We had seen enough and decided to leave immediately, so packed up and left. We did not request a refund for the night we didn’t stay, but our accommodation provider did raise this only to be refused. The host stated we should have told him of the issues we had before leaving. We disagree, the whole experience, coupled with the stench from the lilies, meant we just wanted to get away.
