DON’T LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS. This hotel is right up there with one of the best we have stayed at. We were self catering but you have the option to upgrade to all inclusive or pay as you go at mealtimes. This is great if you can’t be bothered going out one day or cooking, and just using the facilities instead. We had lunch on our first day and it was lovely. The hotel is clean and the housekeeping staff work so hard everyday. Our room was cleaned every day except the Sunday which is a day of rest anyway. The pools are salt water but not overpowering salty like some hotels I’ve been too. We didn’t have any problems getting sunbeds at 11-12oclock each day. The reception staff are lovely and always there to greet you with a smile. When we arrived they kept our bags safe at reception for us until our room was ready, allowing us to get changed and head straight to the pool! The lifts are not an issue at all. We were on level 0 & had to go all the way up to level 6 to get out of the hotel. You never wait longer than 5 minutes for the lift and it never broke down once during our stay. 5 minutes is nothing when you are on holiday and shouldn’t be in a rush anyway! The very lively, Europa Centre is a couple of minutes walk away from the hotel. Then you also have Puerto Rico Shopping Centre & Mogán Mall(situated together), 5minutes in a taxi and around €5 takes you there in no time. We didn’t walk down the hill or back up. My health issues made that a no go for us as the last thing I wanted was to become unwell on holiday. So we decided to hire a car for 3 days. We used the company advertised inside the hotel for car hire & the prices/insurance are great. We got to see so much of Gran Canaria that wouldn’t have been possible on foot and WOW! Our first time but definitely not our last. The only downfall to the whole holiday was the girl that works in the spar inside the hotel in the morning. She never smiles, never says Gracias or thank you and everything seems like it is bothering her. Apart from that I cannot fault anything about the hotel, the staff, food, cleanliness and the views from our balcony & the pool were all 10/10.

Lovely hotel, clean and the food was good, but all the staff were miserable, couldn't decide which were worse the staff in the Spar,the reception or the staff clearing your table. They all need to attend a customer service course, and learn how to smile. The only person that was friendly and helpful was the guy doing the entertainment he gave us so much information that we didn't receive from the reception staff.

Following concerns about a Health concern in our originally booked hotel we selected this hotel a week before our departure based on Trip Adviser ratings and comments. Whoops we slipped up. Substantial Refurbishment (Very Noisy Building Work) on all the apartments overlooking the Adults Only Pool and the Open-Air Balcony alongside the Restaurant and Bar took place during the whole of our 14 days and we understand will continue until the end of July. We like a quiet, relaxing holiday on Sun Beds by the Pool not on a balcony by our apartment away from a Pool and Bar. The Pool Area was not quiet with loud Music, presumably to overcome the building work, Daily Bingo sessions and 'Come and Join Us' events. The hotel definitely has great sea views but to get to a beach is in excess of a 1200 mts walk, down and up of course, along an exceeding steep road or by Taxi (easily available). Evening entertainment, which takes place at one end of the restaurant, was okay on a few nights, but poor on some. It was probably good for families with young children who received plenty of attention from the entertainments team during meal times between 8.30 and 9.30pm. Such a shame as the food was good, the staff were pleasant and the rooms were okay, although not serviced every day. If you prefer a quiet relaxing holiday DONT GO TO THE ALTAMAR

Love love love the Altamar have been coming to this hotel over 20 years and it’s still great!!! Your allowed fun and inflatables in the pool without too much care .. My children came here when they was small and now they bring their children … It’s lovely and relaxing and the views are always amazing Most of my adult life I’ve loved the Altamar a form favourite with my family

The hotel may offer good value for money, however, the experience was subpar. Upon check-in, I was informed that my passport would be taken overnight for scanning. I promptly declined and requested for the staff to scan it in my presence. Assistance with luggage to our room was not provided despite the difficult stairs. The lift is shaky and requires holding on for safety, giving a hazardous and insecure feel. Lack of halal food options and unappetizing vegetarian choices were disappointing. The staff failed to mention that room cleaning and towel changes do not occur on Fridays and Sundays. In conclusion, I regretted choosing this hotel.

We travelled as a group of friends for four days and found the staff and hotel to be amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Atmosphere around the pool was brilliant and happy hour was even better, everyone was really friendly. Food was good, we had lunch a few times. Rooms were really nice and clean and having youtube on the TV was excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to return .

Food ok to great, rooms are a little shabby.. But please.. treat yourself to a visit to the spar shop, one of the most miserable people working there..openly hostile to anyone daring to shop there.. have a trip to europa cause that shop is awful

Amazing family friendly hotel. Stuff were really nice and helpful. Hoyel rooms were clean and tidy. No aircon but the ceiling fun does the job so our worry wasnt that big a deal. Rooms are all looking at the ocean which is something for everyone. Rooms has all extras no need to ask, fridge, kettle, fridge, cooker. Etc. Our small but big wow, in the tv was youtube for my kid which was amazing on evenings. No deposit needed foe tv remote also a big thing. There were some refurbushment in one of the block but again we could hear but not a big deal at all. All inclusive is amazing. Food and drinks all day with big variety for all family. Taxis outside of the hotel 24/7. 5 euro to amadores beach, 6 euro to puerto rico beach. In all this hotel is amazing for everyone i would highly recommend to even families. Amazing.

Excellent hotel & every room has a fabulous sea view. The food & staff are terrific and there us a Spar supermarket within the hotel. A taxi is advisable to fo to Puerto Rico, however the Europa Centre with numerous bars, shops & restaurants is only a 5 minute walk. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing holiday.
