22 オン ボーエン モーテル(22 on Bowen)

Our stay was very disappointing. Not recommended. Booked on the day at their office, they indicated they gave us a good price. Seems from their online prices they charged us for a Queen Spa room $140 when we actually had a Queen Room $125. Prior to our review we gave the owners our feedback as seen below but they haven't responded. The bed was very uncomfortable for us both. Maybe the owners should try it. There was only one very flat pillow each. No other pillows or cushions. The room was very dirty. There was dust & dirt on the microwave top and elsewhere. Cobwebs. The crockery and cutlery in the drawers and the drawers were dirty. A teaspoon was in the drawer with coffee hardened on it. Obviously the cleaners don't check There is no toilet roll holder, looks to have been broken off the wall. The roll just left on the cupboard. Less than half a roll and no spare one. No tissues. The air con & fan were good. Shower was good.

When I was looking for a few nights to stay, I saw that 22 on Bowen had equal numbers of good and poor reviews. From the outside, all the rooms looked similar. Roma can be difficult to get accommodation at short notice. This motel is conveniently located - easy walking distance to shops, fuel and eating places, and easy to find for travellers. The room was very compact, yet enough for my needs. Two people would probably want more space. The steps and screen door are a little hazardous if you're carrying anything bulky. Facilities are good for self-caterers - good fridge size, microwave, toaster, jug. The bed was a bit spongey (you could feel the springs) but OK for sleep. The bathroom area is small but adequate. I have to mark down the motel for cleanliness: (1) dirty microwave - I had to clean away old crusted food. (2) Unwashed crockery. (3) Abandoned food in the back of the fridge. (4) Stained bedspread and blanket. (5) Cockroaches (Tip: cover all the floor drains before you go to bed.)

On arrival after a 12 hour car trip just wanted to shower and sleep. Get to reception and the lady went on and on boasting about where she lives and running through reasons why we shouldnt buy a house in roma or mitchell. Omg. She talked so much that we had to remind her that she hadnt given us the room keys or told us what room we were in. Get to the room, very shabby. Had a shower, walked about barefooted in the room, floor felt greasy and went to get into bed to find my feet were filthy in the space of not even 5 minutes. The shower area had an unpleasant smell so we kept the window open. We left a day early and in fairness i have to say the receptionist tried to get us a refund but couldnt due to us booking online

The screen door for our unit and others when it was open prevented us from using the railing to climb three step ladder style steps to our room. It was put on incorrectly. It was incredibly difficult for me and my husband to go up and down, especially with a bag or something we needed in our hand. This should have been rectified as an accident would leave the owners with a problem. The reception person wasn't very welcoming. Wouldnt go back.

There are three timber steps up to the room we were in. There was a rail for safety, however the screen door opened onto this safety rail preventing access to it. It made it really dangerous to go up these timber step ladder like stairs. I am 80 years old and a lot of travellers are ageing people. Please use commen sense and fix this and have the screen doors open to the other side, otherwise anyone having a fall will have a strong case for lack of safety.

The room was filthy (even had someone’s toe nails left on the floor), dirty hand prints on towels, no spare toilet paper and we were left with about 1/4 of a roll for a 2 night stay between 3 people, stained bedding, mould on top of cupboard from air conditioner, the ceiling fan hadn’t been cleaned in months there was so much dust collected and you can hear the conversations of everyone in the next room. Friends stayed in a room near us and they had dog hair all over their bedding along with what we think was coffee stains on the floor and similar noise issues. Would not recommend this place at all.

The room was filthy even had toe nail clippings from a previous visitor on the floor. The towels had dirty hand prints on them, the toilet wasn’t clean even though it had a clean and sanitised thing on the lid, the bedding was heavily stained, mould on the wardrobe near the air conditioner and the fan had so much dust collected on the blades we didn’t dare turn it on. Friends stayed in other rooms with similar issues. We even checked out early because we couldn’t stand to be sleeping in the filth for another night.

The bathroom was filthy, there was no service to the rooms, had to take towels to office for clean ones, no emptying of the bins in the rooms or replacing coffee, toilet paper etc. the manager was blowing the leaves away at 8am in the morning very noisy and inconsiderate of guests. The towels were slimy and could not dry yourself with them. I will never stay here again
