オテル ドゥ リュニヴェル(Hotel de l Univers)

Positives - central location, friendly check-in service. Negatives - we had issue with neighbors smoking the whole night which with a draft coming through our door, filled our room with smoke smell. Keeping our window open the whole night did not really help. So overall we had quite a bad nights sleep which impacts the whole experience. Reception was quick to try help but the smell was still there unfortunately. Bathroom also smelled a bit (drain smell) so we kept the door closed. Basic and small room with no amenities like kettle, coffee or fridge. But otherwise it was ok, relatively modern and very central location (no parking though)

Great location and clean. However no tea coffee making facilities in the room and no air conditioning. The room was decent and clean but there was a peculiar smell throughout the hotel, I’m presuming from the drainage system. It was hot when we went and no air con meant having the windows open which being very central in the old town means you get a lot of street noise at night. There is no parking at the hotel, indeed throughout the day in the old town no street parking and the car parks are very pricey. We used the Paul Feval park and ride so got the bus back and forth from the town €3 per day. Not a bad hotel if you want basic,clean and central.

This is the perfect spot to stay in Saint Malo. Just inside the walls and very close to parking (no stairs for suitcases). It is also right next to access to the ramparts. Lost of delicious food options near by including the restaurant at the hotel, which is lively and filled with customers. The rooms are a nice size and very clean. Honestly, I was worried with the rating but the hotel is much better than the overall rating suggests. Also, it is not loud at night. At least our room was not.

This hotel is good only if you’re a partier and a smoker and want somewhere to crash after a night in the bars. It is just above its own bar, the entire place (up to 4th floor) reeks of smoke, it’s noisy, the walls are paper thin, the woman at the front desk wears a permanent scowl. There’s nothing good except the location but saint Malo is small, everything is close by. Just awful

If you are going to stay at this hotel make sure you ask for a quiet room away from all the noise. I was in a room looking out to the castle at the front of the hotel and have never in my many years of extensive travelling, had such a noisy room. Revelry went on till the early hours of the morning and once all patrons had gone,the noise of packing the tables,chairs and umbrellas away by the staff continued to well after 2am. Then it starts up all over again around 7am when putting them all out again. So avoid Rooms 202 and 102 which being over the bar area had to contend with music emanating from the bar as well as all the outside noise. Even with the windows closed the noise was still very intrusive. Because there is no air-conditioning and due to it being summer I needed to have my windows open to get some air.

Well positioned hotel within the old city walls so great position for shops and restaurants. Very average beds and very inadequate pillows. The breakfast was very underwhelming . No tea or coffee making facilities or tissues. The supplied bathroom products were basic. The main problem was the amount of smoke that permeated the lobby and staircase from the outside diners. This made sitting in the very nice seating area unpleasant.

Overpriced £220 - no breakfast included only extra charge for two €30!! Tiny bedroom smelling of smoke. Terrible red grey brown and dark wood decoration. Depressing! Smells of smoke. Check out 111am - very short considering cost of room £220 Would not come back here again They need to keep up either the good standards and value for money of other accommodation. Very dated at this hotel

Strong smell of smoke in corridors. Could do with usb plugs. Could make better use of its history and position with better decor. Very convenient for exploring St Malo

Nice room, great front desk people, bed a tad old and used. Same with pillows, flat! Bathroom excellent! Location brilliant! Inside bar was very nice with a fab ambiance! Would I go back, absolutely! Go to the restaurant on the next block, Cafe St. Malo and have the seafood, was excellent!
