ホテル ソブラド(Sobrado Boutique Hotel)

The bed & pillows were the comfiest we’ve had throughout our stay on 4 different islands in Cape Verde. The bathroom was great with a fab rain shower. The room was lovely with patio doors straight into the garden/pool area - pool just right to jump into & cool down. Everything seemed really clean. The buffet breakfast was also one of the best with so much choice & delicious fresh breads. We didn’t try the evening meals as we thought it was expensive, we ate locally (see my review on Bia bar restaurant). Most staff were very friendly. We would definitely stay here again.

I should have known we would have issues when my emails prior to arrival were ignored. On arrival the “suite” I had paid for had been double booked so we were given an alternative which turned out to be the most basic room in the hotel. After three days of complaining I managed to get the difference between the rooms refunded without explanation or apology. Sadly this was just the start of the horrendous stay. Staff are pleasant enough but I wouldn’t call them friendly. The barman definitely requires a personality transplant, or at least a lesson in smiling and acknowledgment of guests would be a start. The bar area is small and forms part of reception. Drinks are reasonably priced. Breakfast is basic and repetitive but adequate. We ate at the main restaurant for dinner twice. The salad selection was good but all the hot food was stone cold. They simply do not have the facilities to keep food hot so should not be serving it. When I complained the chef just shouted and went back to the bar, as he did frequently throughout service, to have more shots. There was a complete lack of management within the whole hotel but especially the restaurant. They had run out of basic condiments which is unacceptable when there is a supermarket three minutes walk away. It is also not a buffet as such. You are served by someone and the choices are minimal. The second restaurant called Piri Piri serves pizzas etc which was ok and the young chef there was very good. The waiter, however, was the barman so all a bit miserable really. Such a shame that most of our evenings enjoying a peaceful drink were spoilt by waitresses arguing with each other. The hotel is small with a garden. The “pool” is tiny so more of a plunge pool. The beach is a good 10 mins walk away over uneven surfaces and not one for pleasant views. Lots of half built buildings which makes the area more of a bomb site. Sobrado guests can use the facilities of their sister hotel including the private beach which was really useful with plenty of sun loungers. Back to the room. The beds were probably the most comfortable I have slept in at a hotel which was great, but you guessed it, that’s where it ended. The room was clean when we arrived but cleaning services throughout our stay were inadequate. Bins were not always emptied, dirty glasses not removed, shower gels not replenished and towels were not clean looking. The TV had one level which was 100 so we couldn’t watch it , which is fine but if facilitates are advertised they should be in working order.On the third night my son showered and half way through the water turned brown. The water from the toilet, sink, shower and bidet were all brown. We had to use another room’s facilities. The following day my son became unwell followed by me the next day. The a/c then failed so we had to use the fan which appeared to have aggravated a nest of some sort as the room became infested with flying bugs, hundreds of them. I have spent one day at the hotel, but mostly my impression was very good. The hotel is very modern and new and crisply clean. Their beds need special praise – this was the most comfortable sleep during my stay in Cape Verde. Breakfast was also fine. They also have a quite nice restaurant which is very convenient if you arrive to Santa Maria late and have no wish to going for dinner any further. Service at the restaurant and the reception was very friendly and helpful. I would have evaluated the property the highest points if it was not for a moment of fright when I received a notice from a booking system that there are some problems with the hotel payment systems and that their customers and their bank cards might be open to the hackers.

Nice size room, very clean. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom had nice size. Balcony was very small. Cleaning every day. Small fridge/mini bar, sadly no price list were present for the mini bar. Nice backyard with sunchairs and a small pool. Staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was disappointing. Limited choice and absolutely no variation during my two week stay. If you're a single traveller and want to take a visitor to your room - find another hotel. They charge you 25 EURO for bringing a visitor who is NOT allowed to stay the night...!

This is a small hotel but perfectly formed! The staff are very friendly always smiling and happy to help. The rooms are a good size with very comfortable beds. Housekeeping is second to none the rooms are spotless. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. The pool and the garden are on the small size but never over crowded and the pool is a wellness spa pool rather than a swimming pool. The beach is walking distance and you can use the swimming pool at the sister hotel just down the road.also can use their private part of the beach with loungers. Breakfast is included and is a good buffet style with enough choices even for a vegan! The on site restaurant is good and staff are friendly. Only thing that could be improved is tea and coffee making facilities are not available in the room. But staff are always happy to make you one! All in all a fantastic stay will definitely come back again

Had a fantastic eight nights, staff are so friendly and accommodating. Hotel is modern clean and with all the basics you require, Beach towels, toiletries, breakfast etc. Price was excellent as is the location just on the edge of town, 5 minutes walk to restaurants, the beach, shops etc - highly recommend

This hotel was clean and everything cleaned daily in room. The staff were fantastic,so friendly and helpful with everything you needed. The hotel had a sister hotel 5/10 mins away which had a lovely pool plus you could use their sunbeds on beach very near. The hotel was a 5/10 min walk into Santa Maria plus some restaurants really close by. We would highly recommend the Sobradi and it’s not overpriced. We left yesterday. Breakfast was perfectly adequate and set us up for the day

We had a very nice and big room with walk-in rain shower. The room was big and everything looks new. The staff is friendly en honest. The location is good since it s only a 5 minute walk to the centre. We didn t like the view from our street view room but offcourse this is not the hotels fault. It s an ugly open field The breakfast buffet is good with many possibilities so you don't have to eat the same every morning. I would recommend this hotel.

I firstly went in and all of the employers stared at me and some of them laughed because of my disability, I then signed in then took me to my room, I shut my door and he laughed and called me a cripple to another employer, I could hear through the door. The next day I got pushed in the pool and immediately left, luckily my career was the to help me or I could have died. Thanks a lot, Terrible place do not go!
