Totem Resorts

We've stayed at a fair number of cabins and fishing resorts and this one was okay, but not great. There is very little information or photos about each of the individual cabins before you pay and you do not get to choose which cabin you reserve. They decide that when you arrive. Although the resort is in Canada they charge in USD. Our cabin was okay but there was a hole in the entry door big enough for mice to get through which explained all the mouse traps in the cabin as well as all the mouse poop. If you have a cabin with dishes be sure to wash them really, really well before using and if you plan to prepare your own meals be sure to bring any cookware or items you may need since it was limited. A hot tub was advertised on the website and their Facebook page but wasn't there when we arrived. The water activities (kayak and stand up paddleboard) were nice to have available but also in rough shape. Most employees we encountered were pretty good and helpful, some more than others but no real complaints there. The restaurant... other negative reviews were accurate unfortunately. Extremely expensive for incredibly underwhelming food. They don't have a current menu posted online; I found an old version that listed pizza and burgers so we figured we'd order that but they weren't served at dinner. All of our group's dinner entrees were below average quality and far above average pricing. We did make a trip to spend a day in Kenora and both the prices and food options and quality were way better. Overall, the resort wasn't AWFUL so it earns more than 1 star but for the cost of lodging and food as well as the condition, I would not return.

Totem Resorts is located on one the world's best lakes and their facilities and quality of service is exceptional. Our family has been coming to Totem for 32 years. We have never been disappointed. The fishing and their guides do a wonderful job. But fishing is just one part of coming to totem. The entire experience could not be better.

We went for a family anniversary , Drive was 1 hour and anticipated this to be a good family restaurant The location was superb , beautiful views of the lake and nice lodge We were sat down quickly hardly anyone in the restaurant , menus given to all Ouch the prices were huge Well we did the drive so we had no choice but to order Firstly no. Vegan choices So that was a challenge , then the prices were outrageous! And for the price we paid not enough for a man meal Ice cream for the kids came out melted thank goodness no charge for that I would not do the drive again for a meal

This is NOT a 5 star resort!!! It is NOT worth the money!! It has not been updated since the 80's. We were picked up in International Falls by the Totem driver. As soon as we got to the resort we were asked to sign a waiver holding them not liable for any accidents....I thought this was strange but we did have fishing planned. We were taken to our cabin which was very old and outdated. We were told their were no keys to lock the doors so our belongings, passports and everything we had was open to anyone. Did NOT like this at all. We did the meal plan and let me tell you.... THE FOOD IS AWFUL. by day 3 you are ready to vomit at the thought of eating there. The chef would not prepare anything that was not on the menu. For instance we were SICK of the same 4 entrees and asked to order off the lunch menu and told NO! We are paying good money and that is not acceptable. Back to the room. NO hot water, wifi is horrible, full size beds. Our first day to fish we waited around for 45 min to find out our guide was "sick". We had to wait another 30 min for another guide. This guide smoked a ********* pen all day while driving us around the lake. Not cool with a 17 year old kid on board or my husband who has been clean 23 years. We return back to our cabin which had not been cleaned. Yes we paid for maid service. Day 2 fishing we get a guide that was pounding beer as he prepared our shore lunch. Again not cool. Now I understand why they make you sign the waiver....Their guides are UNDER THE INFLUENCE. After day 2 we were ready to pack up and come home. It is really a shame because the lake is beautiful but the amount of money spent was 100% not worth it.

We had an amazing vacation fishing trip staying at Totem Resorts in Sioux Narrows, Ontario Canada. Totem has amazing accommodations, great staff and is on the best Lake of the Woods location. We enjoyed the 5-star cabin, dining daily, great boats and a wonderful shore lunch. My family of five had an awesome time.

Paid a premium price for below unsatisfactory accommodations. We had a group of 11 people for one night in four cabins. Upon entry, they found the cabins to be dirty. For some of the beds, the sheets did not appear to be changed from the previous stay. There were rat traps in the cabins. Tracked in goose poop on the carpet in one unit. A/C did not work in one unit, heat did not work in another. One cabin had no hot water. Another cabin had scalding hot water, but no cold in the shower. They were not issued keys to the cabins, so when they left to go to dinner, they had to leave their belongings (laptops, passports, valuables) in their unlocked cabins. We were told to expect luxury and did not get clean, fully functional, or basic needs met. The staff was alerted of their discontent and fixed what they could, but were not staffed to clean the units. The next morning, we emailed with complaints and was told they would look into it. While they agreed that the experience was sub-par, they only issued an apology after several emails and phone conversations, as they have a "no-refund" policy. So, if you are looking for dirty sheets, bugs in your bed, a cold shower and want to pay a premium for it, this is your place. The only positive was the views and location was nice.

WOW!!!!! what can i say about Totem Lodge...nothing but AMAZING!!!!!! service right from registration. a friendly hello and how are you today. grounds staff always stopping and saying hello. restaurant staff, right by your side every time you need something. the food, wow. being a chef, i can be hard on the quality of food, but i promise you, you will not be disappointed with the quality of the food. one of the absolutely best parts of the trip is the shore lunch. you have to experience to get the full quality of it. believe me you will not be disappointed. perfectly cooked fish, beans, and the amazing potato hash. Now, the real reason you come to Totem lodge, the fishing. we went walleye for our time there. Our excellent guide Harry, put us on some walleye. i have never caught so many walleye in one afternoon. the three of us in a span of 3-4 hours caught about 135 walleye. absolutely insane!!!! thanks you to all for a great time

Picture this: three tables, five waitstaff and a magnificent lakefront setting - what could go wrong? Just about everything. In fact, all the diners in the place had complaints. The table next to us had two steaks delivered due to the poor quality. Our meal was delivered all at once after waiting a long time. The appetizers, soups, salads and main course came at the same time except the one main course they forgot. The Cajun pasta was greasy. The French onion soup was not homemade. The gravy in the poutine was out of a can (gasp) and to top it all off the entire meal was charged in American USD making the meal more expensive. Every aspect of our meal was executed poorly. Even the bills were incorrect. I could go on but why beat this tired dead horse. The entire resort is in need of a makeover.

Fishing was excellent, our guide Shaun put us on nice Pike and plenty of Walleyes. Our cabin was spotless and meals at the lodge were well prepared. Eric and his staff were very accommodating! We have stayed at Totem 6 times at a minimum.
