The hotel offers a perfect base camp for those able to explore Tomar on foot. The convent, the castle, the medieval town street and the city park are all within short walking distance. This being a hotel, taxis are available for those not wishing to brave the blazing sun. At the hotel, the public spaces and the rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The staff cannot do enough to make one’s stay pleasant. English is spoken to a sufficient standard throughout. The hotel bar is well stocked and the wine list at the restaurant is very good. We had a perfectly pleasant, if somewhat lonely dinner there one night. In late August, the hotel was very quiet, except by the pool. The hotel is kids friendly and they were all congregated there, enjoying both the indoor and the outdoor facilities. For those wishing to avoid the ear bleed, there are lounge beds set up slightly away from the pool, with great views of the castle and the park.
