We had a very pleasent stay here. Food, cooking and service was excellent. The only thing we were missing is a longer walking trail around or next to the property. Being a tourist you either arrive from the Durban area or from Joburg. After a longer drive you want to stretch your legs on a longer walk. However, this is not a complaint, its a remark only. Next time being in this area we'll certainly chose this beautiful place again. Thank you!

We rolled into Malachite Manor hyped for 4-star bliss in the Sapphire Room, but boy, were we in for a comedic tragedy. The main queen-size bed was so unforgivingly firm it turned our night into a back-and-hip ache festival—think sleeping on a boulder disguised as hospitality-grade comfort. The secondary bed? A comically small, marshmallow-soft setup screaming “kids only,” useless for grown-ups. Adding insult to injury, the room’s hippy-dippy descriptions of sapphire crystals promising “serenity and depression relief” had us laughing through the pain—those gems sure didn’t heal our mattress misery! Complaining got us nowhere: the manager’s polite but pointless offers—a room swap to more of the same firmness or a duvet “softener”—felt like a bad punchline. No compensation in sight, and their claim of zero past gripes made us feel like fault-finding oddballs. The scenic gardens and cozy bar? Nice, but irrelevant when you’re too sore to enjoy them. We escaped at 7pm, wallet lighter by three nights’ fees. Tripadvisor tip: If you crave actual rest over pseudo-spiritual gimmicks and dismissive service, skip this. Dive into other reviews for bed horror stories and odd themes that don’t deliver.

We had a wonderful stay. The setting is beautiful, the staff are friendly, the rooms are very comfortable and the food is superb.

The hospitality received was a 10/10 - from reception/check-in to breakfast in the morning. Love it and would definitely book again when visiting the area.

We enjoyed two nights here. The rooms are great, clean and very comfortable. The staff were always friendly and helpful. Perhaps the only small consideration is that the walls between the rooms are not great for keeping sound out. If your neighours are noisy you will be disturbed.

we had an unpleasant trip we were accused of stealing and of soiling the linen that never happened in any of our rooms after the host founded out that that was not our rooms she find it very difficult to apologise to us.

Beds totally uncomfortable. We had to request to be moved to another room. Food microwaved. Same breakfast everyday.

Malachite Manor is truly a beautiful guest house, each room a different (classy) theme and with significant attention to detail. The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. A wonderful stay, one I can recommend wholeheartedly

Ideal location for a quiet time away from the noise of cities. Quaint restaurants in the area providing for change of atmospheres. Would recommend for a brief break.

What a wonderful hotel to stay at for a couple of days in the southern 'Berg. Unfortunately we only stayed 1 night as we were on our way from the Wild Coast to Lesotho. The room was great and a powerful hot shower was just what the doctor ordered after a long drive. The food at the restaurant was excellent as was the bar area. The real stars of the show were the staff - they were friendly and gave great service. The only downside was that we stayed only 1 night... I have recommended to friends and family.

What a find. We needed somewhere to stay for a Sani Pass tour and Malachite Manor was perfect. From arriving to a warm welcome and seamless check in, to being shown to large very comfortable and well appointed room. The bedroom had outside seating, very comfortable bed and nice linen. It also had a large seating area inside and ann excellent bathroom. The Manors position is also very good with lovely grounds and in warmer weather it would be relaxing to sit by the dam with a glass of wine and a book. Breakfast was perfect with a good hot breakfast has well as a cold selection. Dinner was the best surprise with an excellent menu and a great chef. All our food was fresh and expertly prepared and served. Malachite Manor will be seeing us return and also sending guests from our travel company, South African Secrets.
