The B&B is in a very quiet location with an excellent view to the sea.Yet, it is only a few minutes' drive away from a good pub/restaurant. Our room was spacious, well equipped with a comfortable seating area and very clean. Breakfast was excellent with some very unusual but very tasty options (poached egg on baby spinach). Parking was available, WiFi worked perfectly. Maree was very friendly at any time.

Stayed B&B in one of the apartments with my two dogs. The apartment was lovely, everything was very clean and it was quiet. The breakfast was top class, we also had dinner there and the food is amazing. Possibly the best thing about the hotel is the staff, nothing is too much bother and they were all lovely people. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, explored all around Wick (there are some amazing beaches just up from Tesco) and its only a few min drive to John O'Groats. MacKays Hotel is a great base to explore from and its other claim to fame is it is on the worlds shortest street!

Excellent hotel with great food and staff! We stayed for 1 night whilst touring the NC500 on a motorbike and so glad we chose this place. Staff were very welcoming and efficient. Our room was comfortable, clean and had plenty of space for all our kit, the carpark even had a dedicated motorbike parking area. After dinner we made use of the small study/lounge area to relax with a drink. Very comfortable area which had plenty of books, board games and leaflets of the surrounding area to have a look through. Had a great nights rest and breakfast was superb, buffet style with plenty of choice. Highly recommended for all types of guests.

Iianmel1969Excellent area in Wick for a hotel. Good view of the river and garden. If you are a birder there is a rookery in the church next door and is well worth looking out and hearing for them at roosting time! Rooms were ready for us when we arrived at 2pm which was great and check in was fine. Rooms are quite homely and very clean. Had trouble locating the kettle and cups. Found them in the wardrobe and in a drawer. Bit weird that! Sleep quality was ok. Breakfast was in a pretty uninspiring room with no ambience to it whatsoever. Perhaps a little bit of light music and a few house plants might make it a bit more welcoming. Breakfast was pretty average and the serving girl on the Sunday certainly gave the impression she wanted to be somewhere else, often seen on her mobile phone. All other staff were good. If I was in the area again I would stay again but probably go to the cafe on the High Street instead for breakfast.
